Update April 9th:
The GTG is just 6 days away! Just want to remind everyone that it's not to late to RSVP, even if you don't RSVP, please feel free to stop by anyway. The more the merrier!

Chicago Spring Talkbass Get Together
-April 15th
-Load in starts at 1, Official start time 1:30, out by 6PM
-Location:
Young Mens Educational Network (YMEN)
1241 S Pulaski Rd,
Chicago, IL 60623
Young Men's Educational Network – "Creating Sustainable Male Leadership in Chicago"
-Parking is in the fenced gravel lot to the South of the building.
-Featured Speaker: @ 2PM Jake Serek of Serek Basses will give a presentation on "Short Scale Basses" followed by an open discussion.

Costs/
-FREE! Thanks to some generous Talkbass members (not me) rental of the space has been covered and there is no fee for admission!
-There will be a tip jar out for the YMEN staff worker who will be opening up, closing and generally helping out.

Food:
-Drinks will be allowed everywhere, but food and snacks will stay in the gym area.
-Pizza and Salad will be delivered at about 4:40 from Lou Malnati's. $10 buy in for pizza will be collected at the front door, sign-in.
-Drinks and snacks to be brought by whomever is willing (see below)
-No alcohol. Sorry.

Jamming, hanging and Gear
- We'll have two separate, good-sized rooms for hanging and playing. No amplification provide by YMEN, but I'm confident a few of you will bring rigs. Don't forget to bring stands!
- There will also by a gym area for eating. The gym will have a Jamming setup with electronic drums, guitar amp, etc...

-Sales
The event is not a swap meet, but if you've got a couple pieces of gear you're looking to sell, bring 'em. If possible, put a tag on it indicating price so folks know what is for sale.

So, a few things you can do:
1) Post if you are coming, and if you are bringing any other guests.
2) Post to volunteer for setup, cleanup and bringing of snacks, drinks and ice.
3) If you're available to give a ride, please post that as well.
4) Post here with what gear you are -or are willing- to bring.
5) Spread the word to your friends, other bass groups, etc. This may be a "TB GTG" but any bassist or interested musician is welcome. If possible, please PM me with expected number of visitors, but even if you can't send me numbers, bring people anyway.
6)Feel free to discuss, suggest, etc here any ideas you may have about the GTG. This is your GTG too and I'm always open to new ways to make this fun for you.

That's it for now. I'll update this post periodically with who is coming and who is voluntering.
I'm really looking forward to this and I'm really happy that we'll be able to use the space of such a great community organization like YMEN.

It's going to be a great event, hope you can make it!

How do you all feel about Bassplayers from Wisconsin attending?
I will poll the Wisconsin Bassplayers Club to see is anyone would like to band up and head down if that would be ok?

That would be great. Any bassist willing to make the trip is more than welcome to attend.

If you look at the pictures from last year we had at least one serious Packers fan.

If you do come....I need some New Glarus and Title Town beers.....

If we have it in church property again we cannot drink at the GTG....but I will pay a delivery charge so I can stock the fridge!

I don't mind paying a fee for this event. It's basically an open testing ground for gear, meeting cool bass players, and a much better vibe than Guitar Center! Heck, just paying to be away from terrible guitar players who think they are great is well worth the price of admission! Let's not forget that bass players are typically better human beings. :D

Wisconsin bass players? The more the merrier. As long as they don't play my gear with a cheese head on, there should not be any problems :bassist:

I wanted to bring in my Spectors, Fearless 212, large pedalboard, Mesa D800, and give people a chance to check out some gear. I also have a bass that I would like to trade/sell so this would be the perfect event to do it at.

Come on down. Roncalli High School grad here. :D (and still mourning the closing of the Penquin restaurant)

And, um, yeah, @basspraiser 's Packer bass - plays as sweet as it looks. Fitting tribute to our team.

Just a quick update. The first location (across the street from the old location) I was looking at seems to be more of a proper convention space. It's a bit more than we want to pay and we have to buy our snacks and pop from them. I'm still keeping it as a possibility, but I'm now in contact with another local community organization to see about using their space.

Will keep you all informed as I learn more.

If you haven't voted on dates please vote now. The venue I'm communicating with is asking for specifics and I'd like to give them two dates to choose from by tomorrow evening.

Thanks!
