Achtung: Nice review of the SB-1000CB over at Harmony Central! I should write one of my CB as well.

BTW, I've been in contact with that guy who has the all black SB-1000 that I posted pics of. He's saying it really is Cliff's from the Day on the Green '85 vid and will provide emails to prove it later on. :eyebrow: And I think he does plan on selling it. Gotta admit, it would be cool to have that bass (whether it was really Cliff's or not), but I do wonder why Cliff's family or Metallica doesn't have it if it indeed is the real deal. We'll see what happens...

Also, some new Aria news. If you look at www.ariaguitars.com you'll see they plan on introducing some new basses at the German Musikmesse in March. I wonder why they didn't introduce these at NAMM? Makes me think they're not for the US market. :confused:
Anyway, there were a couple of models that got me interested. Here is the announcement:

HALL4.0 F29, ARAI & CO, INC (ARIA)

Aria is going to have a booth at coming Musikmesse Frankfurt. We are going to release 10 new models in additions to what we exposed at Namm 08 as follows:

AVB-200 BASS GUITAR
AVB-77 BASS GUITAR
IGB-77 BASS GUITAR
SB-CB BASS GUITAR
DMB-380 BASS GUITAR
...(guitar models snipped :hiding: )

The later AVBs have been pretty cool from what I've seen. There may be a hint at was the AVB 200 and 77 AVB might be like from Aria's Japanese site which has a "AVB-950TK" listed. It's neckthrough with a Kahler Tremolo system.

But the basses I'm most interested to see are the IGB-77 and the SB-CB. I wonder "CB" means. Could it be another Cliff Burton influenced bass? I can't see how when they already have the SB-1000CB. It's probably just another of the cheaper SB line that Aria has produced outside of the Re-Issue models lately. Though I hope they surprise me with something cool (and have it be a real old school style SB!).

I guess we'll have to wait til sometime in March for Aria to get the Musikmesse pics posted - unless someone has some inside info on these models?!

I heard before that Aria couldn't get permission from the Burton estate for an official sig bass, so unless the family changed their minds it doesn't seem like they could do it. Could the SB-CB be a re-issue of the Black 'n' Gold I Cliff used on the 'Puppets' tour? It'd definitely be cheaper without all the fancy BB circuitry of the SB1000! Just wishful thinking on my part, though... :hmm: I wonder if I should call Aria Japan...could be frustrating without any Japanese skills, though!

You know what...I *just* remembered - I have a friend here in Korea who is actually going to be demoing some guitar stuff for JamMate and Sound Drive amps at Musikmesse! I'll have to ask him to see if he can possibly stop by the Aria booth for some pics of the latest Aria basses!! He's going to be there for the full three days so hopefully he'd have time.

That'd make sense that they copy the black and gold, but why not just reissue it as the black and gold?:confused:

As for MusikMesse, I was checking it out and unless I want to go on my own then I don't think I'll be going. Nobody has any money to go with me. :crying:

Ask your friend to take some pictures if he can!!! :hyper:

Anyways, It's no different from any other black n' gold. :hiding:

One thing that surprised me from the photos was the chrome tuners? is that right for it to have it?:confused:

Well, that's the thing that is so striking about that guy's "Cliff bass": it's an all black SB-1000, not the Black n Gold. So yes, chrome tuners and the brass bridge are correct. I've never seen another all black SB-1000 as they always came in see through red or black with the natural maple neck (like John Taylor's '80s model). But yes, whether or not he can actually prove it was Cliff's is another matter! Emails alone won't cut it... Here is one more pic of the controls up close, so you can see it's a 1000. Note the broken bypass switch.

I will ask my friend to take pics at Musikmesse. He is a guitarist though, so getting him to focus on anything with less than 6 strings might be too much to ask. :D

OOps, my bad. I always mix up the B n' G and the SB1000. :smug:

I've seen one or two other black 1000's around on the net. A couple on some Japanese sites. They were more rare but just because he has one doesn't mean it was Cliff's. TBH, I doubt it is. Unless he can provide a picture of cliff beside the S/n then I don't think its possible.

As for your friend, he better not come back with a lot of guitar pics! :mad:

I think Aria should listen to the average player like you and me, because the 5 or 6 SB bass is something that is long overdue! Especially in this day and age where so many players are using at least a 5. Makes sense marketing-wise, no?

I have seen some Aria SB 5 strings, but they seem to be mostly from Aria's custom shop and are of course nowhere near as common as the 4 string SBs...Here are a couple pics I've found online in recent months...The first one looks a lot higher-end than the second.

Hey A83 or anyone else who owns a NEW Aria Pro II SB. Quick question?

Have you tried to put Dunlop Strap Loks on it? I bought some but the strap button appears to be further forwards on the new basses. Because of this the screw won't go all the way in as the hole is too short. I'm worried to drill deeper incase it comes thru the other side of the horn :eek:

Please help?!!! :(

No, I haven't tried to put any strap locks on my SB-1000CB... I've only ever used Schaller straplocks and they fit well on my Elite I.
That would suck to drill through the horn! Better watch it!There was a thread a while back about low cost, do it yourself strap locks. I think it was just using something like a rubber washer (although some used metal). Now I don't know if you want to try it with a $1000 bass or not, but it's better than drilling through the horn...:) Here is that thread, with pics:
