at what age do you become the "old man"

You're old when your day revolves around meals, taking meds, and having bowel movements.

And when those topic are discussed with your friends along with the illnesses that come along with them.

When you discuss your grandkids with your friends.

When you learned all the new tunes that are now called "classics" or "oldies".

When you start advising people of all ages what you did to resolve some medical problem and now you're "feelin' a lot better".

When you first heard "Feelin' Alright" and it meant something a lot different than what it means to you now.

You still think you're 18 and you're a legend in your own mind and you always let people know how great you used to be at _________.

When I turned 35 a friend came up and said "happy birthday. You're still young." so I asked how he came to that conclusion. He said multiply your age by 2. If you could be around at that age, you're still young. If not, you're getting old. You're turning 35. You could feasibly be around at 70, but if your turning 55, most people won't be around at 110, so that's getting old. I can see his point.

I don't think there's an absolute age when you become The Old Man; I think it just happens at whatever point when you find yourself surrounded by people conspicuously younger than yourself. You could be 30, but if you suddenly get transferred to the after-school shift populated by teenagers, BOOM, you're now The Old Man. Conversely, you could be approaching retirement age, but if everyone else you're hanging out with is already well past retirement age, you're still The Kid.
