Atkinson basses new website and model

Mongo,

What will it take to make you stop posting in this thread? You're bordering on stalking status with me.

I'll make you an offer. I will pay you money to stop. I'm not kidding. PM me your Paypal address, and I'll send you $5. But you gotta promise to move along and exit this thread for good.

If you promise to never post in any thread about my basses ever again, I will pay you $10.

OK, I have been a TB'er for a long time and I have read thousands and thousands of individual posts, but this one is by far the BEST ONE I HAVE EVER READ!!

Dan, will you be my friend?

Dan and I had been in contact via email in the past about a possible 5-string P-bass build for myself. He was nothing but professional, courteous and very communicative-and I'm not even a customer, just an admirer of his aesthetic, quality and "working-mans" attitude. To the flamers-PLEASE post somewhere else. This is a "family" and Dan is an upstarting company gaining support and praise from a dedicated and civil group. He has enough going on with his business and own life to not have to deal with the petty bashing from ya'll. Peace!

Well said! I for one, can't begin to understand the flamers on this thread.

Here is a sneak preview of the EVOKE series!
Looks fantastic, I'd say!

Ok gang, the new basses are up on the site:
http://www.atkinsonbasses.com/EVOKE

I have a couple of more designs "in the pipeline". As you can tell, these models are based on familiar designs, with a slight tweak here and there. These have a more boutique vibe than my previous models.

The headstock design is also very "familiar". I had hoped to create something more unique, but USACG is my favorite source for necks and they are currently without a programmer to create anything custom. (I told Tommy I'm first in line for a custom headstock if they ever hire somebody.) I'm keeping the headstock pics to a minimum for now, to keep the big "F" off my back...hopefully.

And obviously with these basses, I can build them complete with the body & neck joined, unlike the "Retro" models that have the Fender headstock shape.

The nitro finishes on these are a step up from my prior finishes. I've upgraded my equipment to take things up a notch. :)

I guess quality has to cost money.
Bummed that the Sting Jay is only about $50 less than a Ray and may not come with a case. I get the hand made thing but was hoping a lower overhead would outway mass production cost savings.

I wish that were so. But for someone like me the materials costs are still fairly high, and then all my manual work takes time. A real mass production Stingray probably has a cost in the ballpark of $500, even with the overhead, since the overhead is spread across hundreds and hundreds of instruments.

Basically these models fill the gap between my "Retro" basses, around $850, and something like a Valenti for $2000.
