Ken Jung's opinion sounds about right. I have a TB'er friend with an MB500 and I'm sure we'll be trying my TC112 with it pretty soon.

I tried a Mesa Walkabout head yesterday with my cab. Sounded quite nice and it seemed like the 300 watts available would be plenty for the sort of gigs I do with a drummer, and more than plenty for those without one. But it also did feel a bit like it was leaving something on the table compared to my 1000 watt rig, not too surprisingly.

Just had to post up again on this thread. I have a nice gig in St. Louis tomorrow night. 7 piece band, casual country club gig, no front of house, moderate volume, about 200 guests or so.

What a dream to strap my bass on my back, my amp in a bag around my shoulder, the TC112 in one hand, and my bass stand in the other, and still have a sound that is louder, fuller, deeper than any 210 I've owned or heard, with virtually no compression of the low end even when pushed a bit, slapped, etc.

I love this cab. Here's the schlepp:

Markbass F500 in carry bag with all cables
Sadowsky Vintage in gig bag with all cables, tuner, etc.
Hercules stand.

Beautiful, full articulate tone, and volume that approaches my old Epi310UL. Amazing!:hyper:

I seriously hate it when you do this Ken. You make it abundantly clear that there is great, world class killer gear out there that I don't own yet ....but need to spend money on! The TC112 approaches an EpiUL310? Yikes! That is a glowing endorsement for sure! Talk about keeping step in good company huh?

Just received my TC12 last week. Am completely blown away. Brilliant design and execution, with the tunable port system and conrollable horn essentially offering 3 or 4 very different sounding options (I'm digging it most with 1 port open and the horn up full). At 4 Ohms and 30 lbs it is the cab of cabs for my Walkabout. If I was beginning anew, I think 2 of these in 8 Ohms would do it all for me. Hats off!


Edit-just saw the MB500 post. I have one and the marriage is great with this cab, but I need to keep the contour knob waaaay down, otherwise the lows are overpowering. The true bass and sheer volume that come from this mini rig are ridiculous.

Last night I had my first occasion to try a one hand carry of my TC cab with my amp rack in the other hand. I'm still not quite at a one-tripper unless I use my cart (I have 5 pieces total, a mini-amp would knock it to 4) but I rarely have parking issues at my gigs anyway. The schlep factor has never been easier for me, and again last night I got a "best-ever" comment from a musician who has heard me play many many times. The AF version really does make my EUB sound more acoustic -- what a concept! :cool:

+1 I typically use my small Kart-a-Bag Concourse cart for this rig, but on those occasions where parking is right next to the gig, it is a pretty easy one hander. Amazing little box!

Joining the amen chorus here. Have now done 5-6 gigs with my Thunderchild 12 (I'm a hobbyist) coupled with a Thunderfunk 750. In some circumstances have had to boost the mids a bit to get more cut, but for the most part playing with things flat, and LOVING what this cabinet delivers. Yes, the T-funk looks goofy hanging over both sides of the T-child, and kind of crooked to boot, but I can deal with it.

Well, it's done......I've just ordered 2 ThunderTots (Tweeterless) from Duke......112 cabs with the 8 ohm 3012's that he was going to put in the 212 TC I think.....since he won't be ordering anymore of those speakers (thanks to the Neo China problem)....I'll be the only one to have those speakers.....they will be approx 25lbs and be the size of my Markbass CMD121P (which will probably be sold once I get the new cabs)....the new cabs will be used with my LMII head and possibly, also, a Streamliner 600.....I'm stoked.....

Congrats! I know weight is an issue for you so this should fit the bill (much like the 121P did). And sound-wise, you won't be disappointed :bassist:

Yes, thanks....I think so too.....they'll only be a few lbs lighter than the Markbass but even that will help and as for tone, well, I hope they're better than the Markbass though that little rig is pretty darn good...but if I can get some ThunderTots, then I must do it.....lightweight, easy to cart around, and 2 of these little 112's will be wonderful.....it should take approx 2-3 mo before I get them....can't wait.....

Interesting, I don't know how that will sound at all... the horn is such an essential part of the Thunderchild design that I don't know how it would sound without it.

Duke, with the compression driver turned off, are we hearing the woofer's unaltered response? It really doesn't sound like it is to me, but my perception is probably skewed by how naturally the crossover integrates the compression driver :D

I believe it too. I'm just curious what I'm hearing with the CD off - it doesn't seem to have much of an uppermid bump, which would be really unusual for a MI speaker, but of course Duke custom orders the drivers. It sounds great, by the way. I almost always have the CD on with the roll off engaged because the high end is so gorgeous.

That 121P is a neat little combo but I am not a fan of the Markbass piezo tweeters. Having owned both a 121P and the Thunderchild I cannot imagine that you will be disappointed.

With the compression driver off, the top end of the woofer is still aggressively equalized and rolled off by the crossover. You're definitely not hearing the native response of the driver.

Loopee's Thundertots will have considerably more top end than that. The Thunderchild with tweet off is -3 dB at 1.8 kHz, and -6 dB at 2.2 kHz, on-axis. The Thundertots will be -3 dB at 2.5 kHz and -6 dB at 4.0 kHz, which isn't anything extraordinary, but is "decent" and probably seldom found in a tweeterless cab with the sort of low-end she can expect. I will be doing some equalizing too, so she won't be hearing the native response of the driver either.

Last week Charlie (Passinwind) graciously brought by his TCAF12 (or is it TC12AF?) and his very trick custom-built pre & ice power amp along with his BSX upright. Between his rig and my Mesa Walkabout head, RA Mouse and a J, I feel like I got a pretty good handle on the personality of the cab.

It's hands down the most impressive cab I've heard, with a very smooth and extended response and huge dynamics. I've been curious about Duke's upcoming 15" driver cab too, but given the punch and scale the TC12AF has coupled with it's extremely sane size and light weight, I was sold.

I caved and ordered one a few days ago.:cool:
