Yes. I think this would be a good option. Only problem is years ago when I used a pre/power rig a lot of the PA type amps sounded very brittle and hard.
Crown, Yamaha etc. Keep in mind these were the big led sleds. I would love a warm/neutral sounding power amp, light weight, with a nice warm pedal style pre. That way I could balance both cabs independently. Without spending a small fortune.
Sounds like you just need a powerful stereo power amp, I'd recommend QSC PLX or Crown XLS series as light but powerful options.
Then the fun begins picking out a nice bass pre...
I'd post this question in the General amps forum to get a more qualified answer than just my opinion though.
Acoustic Image Focus 2 Series 3, 1000W into 2 Ohm, warm neutral sound (to me), 5 pounds, no Stereo Power Amp but the 2 Channel-Pre can be used in stereo mode with an external Power Amp (if needed)
This sounds interesting. The Crest 2.0 and all the other amps are 19" wide. Ideally I'm looking for a smaller amp.
Has anyone ran a pedal to warm up the AI focus? If so any suggestions?
I've never found that the AI's lack warmth. If you need dirt, any of the usual suspects will do.
More warmth and roundness is what I'd be looking for.
No dirt or distortion. The sound would be like Harvey Brooks on Super Session playing Alberts Shuffle.
I used to use the Aguilar Tone Hammer DI to warm up my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro/410 HLF rig. It's my understanding that Ampegs aren't known for being sterile, but that rig sure was and the Aggy really helped to round it out. Since switching to the Demeter/Audiokinesis rig I haven't needed it.
I don't have experience with them, but I bet a REDDI would work too, though it's a bit more expensive than the Aggy.

There is a New REDDI coming out.. It is a BLACK Reddi. With Much more Gain. It will Drive a Poweramp with ease..

So, I just plugged in the Spector Forte4 SS > Mesa Buster > Hathor (top switch up, bottom switch down, port plugged) with my Barefaced Super Compact. KaBOOM! The J-bass metal sound I've been trying to nail. The Hathor alone was a little polite in some ranges and hi-fi in others. The Super Compact is aggressive in the mids, but has little over 4k. The Buster is a pretty bright head. the J pickups were set 50/50 blend with the preamp engaged (it has a passive option). I'm tuned to drop-C and it hits a home run. The Blower Bass pedal adds the right grit, though left fully clean, it works pretty dang well,
I was afraid the two cabs wouldn't mix and match. When I met up with nostatic to play my Barefaced SC against his Hathors and TC, we tried pairing your cabs with the Barefaced and it wasn't a good match. The Barefaced was new, and it has broken in a bit.
