Alright guys, so I'm having Duke build two Hathor1203's for me... But I'm a bit nervous. My primary rig right now is a Glock HR into a Glock 410.... This rig handles the B string of my Elrick very nicely at full rock volume.... I just received a Mesa D800 today, my question/concern is will the Mesa/ two Hathor setup be able to reproduce the integrity of the low B at gig volume,or will that be too much to reasonably expect from such a diminutive setup???
I'm sure Todd will confirm the ability of that setup, since he has the 1203s and a D800 that he gigs (even though he is currently using a Hathor and TC). He has gigged with the 1203 cabs for a long time and knows just what they will do.
In reference to anyone considering the 1203 cab:
They have handled any situation I have tried. They have plenty of volume, wonderful tone and I have yet to hear (one or the pair) fart out. Don't let the small size fool (or trick) you. They like lots of power and put out as a result.
With that being said:
* I only play 4 string passive Precisions and Jazz basses.
* I always use an fdeck HPFIII for all of my rigs.
* I prefer a full, slightly mid-forward tone. I can't do the super-low deal. I want solid, balanced tone (think punch, definition, with enough lows, but no mud).
* The switches on the 1203 cabs do a great job of altering the tone.
* Need less mids, flip the lower switch down. Too much highs, flip the upper switch down. Want a rounder, warmer tone, flip both switches down.
* With both switches up, and with the right EQ, they do a great aggressive, grindy tone, which sets perfectly in the gigs I am currently doing. It is a very musical grind, not irritating.
* These cabs, in my opinion, are a perfect match for a Monique. (They also work great with my Thunderfunks and the TH500).
* At 24 pounds each, they are an easy load in/out.
I bought a pair without trying them out. I heard plenty of sounds clips here on TB (a lot of them from nostatic). Since receiving the 1203 cabs, my cab search is over. The tone per pound ratio on these cabs are just crazy!
I'll be calling Duke Monday to order a Hathor 1203.
