Cool! I hope they have some simple adhesive backing or similar. I'm not anxious to take a screwdriver to your work, unless it's non-destructive in nature
Duke's cabs work great with an RA. I prefer the H1203, but I prefer that anyway. Rob's basses have huge low end, and since there is a piezo involved, they can be scratchy depending on the amp setup. His preamp is buffered so you don't need anything in-between like having a pickup on an upright though - just the nature of the beast. I've had a number of different RA, just picked up this Deep 5 last week. Have been gigging it the last weekend both with H1203 and MAS109 cabs. An RA isn't an upright substitute, but it certainly will get closer to the vibe than most any other electric. More importantly, they have their own thing going on that is pretty damn cool.

Why the inverted H1203?
Regarding Rob Allens, I'm owned a few MB2s (four string, five string, fretted, fretless) and I've played Fred's Deep 4. Seeing you mentioned an upright, I'd consider a Deep 4 over an MB2. While it's not an upright substitute, I felt the Deep 4 had more "character" to it's voice than the MB2.

I'm giving that some thought, but I'm a shallow bastid and prefer the shape of the MB2 to the single cut of the Deep. Terrible, I know... The other issue is cost. The Deep approaches the cost of the upright I was considering (Upton Bohemian Hybrid).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Mouse. Can you compare it to the MB2 tone-wise? It would be easier to chord on the short scale, but I don't want to give anything up tonally.

But the Mouse will be closer to the upright vibe than all the others.

I don't own an MB2, but I have played several. On the one hand, they play more similarly to most other electric bass guitars. The short scale on the Mouse can take some getting used to. However, if you are trying to cop more of an upright tone/feel, IME/IMHO, the Mouse does a better job than the MB2.

okay. i was there . . . hopefully he won't be ticked that i'm telling his story (@nostatic)
i went over to todd's cause we do the bass geek hang occasionally. he was showing me the mas10 (or whatever the number is) and listening to it in juxtaposition to and combination with the h1203. they were side by side, but he wanted to stack them. problem was that the mas10 has a handle that is not recessed and the feet on the h1203 weren't deep enough to accommodate the handle. i saw that the depth of the recessed handle on the h1203 (yeah, duke) was about the same as the handle on the mas10 . . . suggested he flip it over so the recess accommodated the mas10 handle.
it worked . . . and, more importantly, we actually liked the sound of it pretty well (you do miss the top vents for the 3, but the side vents still work).

Well, the official lore is that steubig suggested it based on his back-of-the-envelope calculations concerning quantum audio shifts and bernoulli vortices which proved to be correct, especially during a solstice.
The real reason is that the MAS109 has a strap handle on top, and the H1203 has a recessed area for its handle - and there is enough room that the MAS109 handle fits as well. Kinda like legos...

I definitely like the Mouse vs the Deep, so I'll just have to decide between the Mouse and the MB2.
