AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Not in this one. I have some hybrid designs on the drawing board though, but my preferred tube format requires a bit more room and I'd have to source a different case.

Tubes seem less and less important to more and more players (...now I'd better duck). What do P-EQ, Freq, and BW control (the mid-range, I'm guessing, but how?) Thanks for your time.

Hey Tom,

The controls work the same way as in my last few DIY threads here and here. The EQ format is 3 band fixed EQ with mids at ~480Hz, plus the separate and bypassable fully parametric section which sweeps from 100-2400 Hz, and a variable high pass filter similar in format to the fdeckv3.

I already have a fairly uptown rack tube preamp that I can just plug into any of my DIY amps, so throwing big money at that again doesn't really seem like the thing right now. For most of what I do these days tubes are just a little added seasoning that can be fun, but that's not really needed for the most part. I love building stuff with them though, always have since I was a little kid.

I tried 4Mal's MB 500 Fusion through my TC112v1 a while back, but only at home and only pretty briefly. It seemed just a little bit smoother than the MB500 to me, which is what 4Mal has also mentioned. I didn't mess with the distortion much, but it seemed pretty capable of going there.

Any chance you can make the Seattle GTG in May? Should be all those flavors and more in attendance, although I'm not sure which AK cabs will be there. TC112v3 and TC118 are already confirmed though.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I'm building yet another DIY amp, this one formatted to fit nicely on top of my TC112 without overhang or having to stack pieces:

Hoping to have this one wrapped up in time for the GTG, which should be pretty doable.
That is very nice. What is GTG? I'm somewhat interested. Wife and I travel to Oregon occasionally and maybe we could time the trip accordingly....

Has anyone tried an Acoustic Image amp with a TC112? How did you like it?

Im using my TC112V1 with an Al Focus S3 (and Clarus SL, older Model) and liked it more than other Amps i tried, GK Microheads, Puma 900, MB Lm3, sounded more natural, uncoloured, "acoustic" ; ) to me..although this is with Bass Guitars.
But i missed some "colouration" in the mids to shine better through the Bandmix, so i started Experimentations with Preamps.
So far i like the Sansamp Paradriver, just a little bit of it, and its tube-emulation, in the effectsloop of the AI.
Tried a TC Electronis Dual Parametric EQ as well, but it seems to be just more ot that neutral sound characteristics, and not getting me where i want to.
All in all i like to stay with the AI. Paired with the TC they are really versatile, and portable of course.
I use them to amplify Piano and/or Flute/Vocals at the same Time with Bass on small gigs and for playing recorded music through it/let a DJ play through it before/after.

Great info!

this happens to me regularly. i have to put in a comment so it remembers me (or so i think). kind of a pita.
You can unwatch and re-watch a thread, as well (selecting "email notifications" when you re-watch). This doesn't happen to me regularly, but it has once or twice.

I *think* you might be able to go into your options and change this globally.

Any news you can share on the H1505?

Getting the top-end rolloff switch to not screw up the mids was really hard on this cab, which caught me by surprise. I had to use multiple circuits switching simultaneously, something I haven't done before. The switch looks like an octopus from the underside due to all the wires coming out of it. I suppose I'll get used to it, but was really nervous about making a mistake on this first one. However it measures and sounds like I got it right. I made a sample switch to use as a guide on future builds.

My beta-tester should be able to test out the cab this coming weekend, and if it gets a thumbs-up, I'll start filling 1505 orders. Thanks for your patience, those who are waiting!!
