AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

at the risk of wearing out my welcome, i'll mention another thing: after i finished my Super Twin conversions i took 'em to a long time, well known, bay area " mesa boogie authorized " tech for going through and tubes. i reminded him that the preamp section of these babies has an unorthodox tube layout, but this guy has a smug, " i've seen it all, " attitude and didn't even check, re-tubed it like a regular Twin Reverb. it took me a long time to figure out the problem. i should name him, but i won't, 'cause in the shop he has a couple of friendly, happy, pets - you can tell they're well loved & taken care of, which i like - but i'll never go back.

I don't like to disagree with some of the folks on here that I really respect but my experience is that good sounding heads into good sounding cabs can yield a widely varied result. It would be a stretch to say that all the results I've experienced were positive. And while I know that Duke works in the finest of details, the result for me was certainly not a nuance. The clarity of the TC cabs is amazing and suddenly everything else seemed very colored.
I will absolutely agree that the volume the band is playing at can mask the differences to a degree and that the audience (depending on who they are) may not know the difference. Some audiences are clearly more musically educated than others and some more sober than others.

I have used a variety of tube heads with my TC115AF (wide version). I especially like it with my Reeves C225. Efficiency seems very good, and the tone is all that you could want for.

I've run my mid-seventies V4B through a TC115AF. ...sounded great - never thought about efficiency except that there was more than enough volume well before breakup.

Duke:

If you run an H1203 with the 4/8 switch at 8 ohms does it retain the slightly darker tone of the standard 4-ohm cabinet or will it's tone be that of the standard 8-ohm version? I am hoping that it has the tone "native" to both cabs, depending upon which position is selected on the switch.

I've never built a Hathor 1203 cab with the 4/8 switch, but it could be done. And I hadn't thought about it before just now, but I could probably configure it so that the switch only affected the woofer, thus theoretically restoring the "normal" tone (or pretty close to it) in 8-ohm mode. It wouldn't be exact, because the 4 ohm woofer's frequency response curve does differ from the 8 ohm woofer's curve in some places, and the series resistance would also modify the woofer's low end a bit.

Good day folks,

As some of you know, I'm waiting for a pair of TC112AFv3s with pole mounts. Duke has been kind enough to send me some build pics, and I thought I'd post them here (as approved by Duke) for your enjoyment.

Needless to say, I'm extremely excited to get these cabs in general. The fact that they're also hand made by a great guy like Duke is icing on the cake!
