AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Tonight will be my first time using my Hathor 1203 with the Quilter BB 800. Played this same club last Friday with 2 10" cabs and got a great sound despite it being a very boomy room. Just got my Tuki cover/bag for my Hathor this week; didn't want to transport my new baby without any protection. Will try to take a pic of rig at the gig. Got 7 gigs in 4 days this weekend with 4 different bands. 2 of the venues have house rigs but I just might use this combo at them if I don't feel too lazy about it. Can't wait to have my inaugural run with the Hathor/BB 800 tonight!

Awesome. Don't be afraid to crank up the gain. I get the best results with the quilter with the gain around 2 or 3 (with a passive p bass). I want a full report! have a fun gig. I'll be out there again with my quilter and AK stack this Tuesday and my new Bluesman vintage bass

Exactly, gain at 2 o'clock with my p bass is perfect. Nice and thick!

B|Amp and Demeter are both fantastic options. Demeter delivers the expected rounder lows, glassy highs, and somewhat tricky to dial in mids (but still a range of great midrange tones). It's more flexible than you might think at first glance. That being said, the B|Amp has nearly endless flexibility, but also sounds dead-on "right" right out of the box. Both are strong options with plenty of volume on tap, IME/IMHO.

I really can't express or say enough about how happy I was yesterday and Friday night about my rig! It's everything that I was hoping for and much, much more. Used my passive Jazz bass (the one in my avatar) and can't wait to try out one of my P basses thru it. Friday night in the boomy room got many compliments from band mates and customers. One patron, who also turned out to be a former bassist, thought I was in the mains because the balance of sound was so good. That was with a pretty hard rocking trio. Saturday afternoon was beautiful bass tones in a 5 piece blues band with 2 guitars and keys. Went to next gig across the street and then just plugged my pedals and bass into house rig. Only had 15 minutes between gigs so that just made me want to get a quick setup. Next gig had an hour between gigs but had to go from downtown to midtown. Got to the gig and told the sound guy I was going to use my own rig instead of the house's Markbass 210 combo and 15 cab. On the break he had to say that my Audiokinesis/Quilter rig puts the house rig to shame and to please always bring mine in the future. This was with a quartet: guitar, keys, bass and drums. Band leader was very impressed too. I was able to carry my bass, amp, cabinet, pedalboard and heavy power conditioner all in one easy trip to all gigs. Hallelujah! Duke, I will definitely be ordering another 1203 from you even though I'm not sure that I truly need it. I truly want it though so that's what matters. It'll make sense as the gigs in my life could one day again get louder and bigger. Duke and Pat Quilter are definitely the kind of guys who make this country great and have no need to be boastful about it. I'm proud to be using their brands because they have so much quality at a great price for working musicians. I'll be boastful for them at every gig too, because my sound is so much more inspiring to me now and that's what really matters most. Thanks Duke! And fellow TB'ers, please forgive me for not knowing how to upload pictures on my phone to here. I took a few. I'll have to use my 8 year old daughter's tablet. I'm so not with technology, and that's another reason why I love my simple rig so much...just plug in and play! 2017 is definitely looking UP

I'd like to add a few more thoughts that are specific about the Hathor 1203.
I did use it sealed and vented on the Fri night gig. Left it sealed for the Saturday afternoon low volume gig. Took the plug out for the semi loud Saturday night gig. Tried the switches in various positions at all gigs. Loved getting what I wanted from each intuitive selection. All of these years, I've been using cabs that shoot the sound out around my knees and into the audience and I can never get a total grasp on what my rig sounds like unless someone sits in or whatever. There's been times in my life where I had stacked cabs and was pushing some air but I'm older now and my roadie friends who used to work for free draft beer have deserted me. Half the gigs I play, I'm full aware that the sound guy doesn't want to put bass guitar in the monitors and it's up to me to fill the stage. It's always a total pleasure when I get to work with sound people who will give you anything that you want without fear of blowing up their monitors. Such a rarity though and I digress.
First thing I noticed was hearing my bass and amp and every adjustment that was made had noticeable effect. Normally I'm kinda wondering why I'm not hearing any definite changes when I boost or cut and things are awash without definition. I'm in tight quarters on alot of my gigs. Always having to deal with every other player hogging all the stage space. Most the time anyways. Thanks to the 1203 cab, I can stop cursing the situation and actually hear myself while I'm cramped up onstage getting claustrophobic. This was a wonderful revelation at the 3 gigs I used it on this past weekend. Not only can I hear myself but I know that all the other players are hearing me better too. They can have their stage space now and I don't have to be a disgruntled co-worker anymore. I got a nice peaceful, easy feeling inside just from writing that last sentence.

Another gig in last night with the Quilter AK combo. This was the blue jam again and I got to hear this rig from the audience for several sessions where I wasn't playing. As always impressed with how present and clear this rig is without being boomy. And the stage sucked too, hollow stage in a corner makes for boominess. Everyone's basses sounded great through the rig.

I might be one of the only ones on the board with the Hathor 212. I've got some vids from gigs using the 212 but we always have full FOH so it's not a representation of what the cab can do in its own. I don't slap but use both a pick and finger style. My Spector and Fenders (P and a J) all sound great thru the cab.

Drummer from the obnoxious trio couldn't play so we did an obnoxious duo on a multi-band thing Thursday night. We played for an hour in a room that didn't need much amplification but of course we were much amplified. One 1203 and the subway. When we finished a couple of guys from another band came up and no joke, the conversation went like this:

"So you were playing thru that cab (pointing to the hathor at the back of the stage) and another in stereo?"

"No, just that one."

"But you were into the PA?"

"No, just that one."

"All that was coming from that one little cab?"

It's a prototype build from Marco Bass Guitars in Oregon. There's one other sweet blonde one out in the wild with a pretty similar outline, but his "production" singlecuts are a bit different now. Marco and I are working on a few things together, so it just made sense to work out a trade so that I can get more familiar with his pickups and we can both represent the other's work a bit.

I think I've been to his website before, unless it's a different Marco.
