Your approach makes sense. Many ways to approach stage vs. house sound - ultimately, whatever works for you is valid. I think that I've tended to split the difference between "typical" bass cab coloration (whatever that might be) and the "PA like" approach you mention. At least that's how I hear the cabs I've favored (Hathor 1203 and MAS 112) over the last several years. I could see myself taking the more accurate, "PA-like" approach, too (and have flirted with it in the past), under the right circumstances.

In any case, I wish you a successful experiment and a safe and happy return to gigging when it happens!

I was more putting it out there for all to see, as I'm extremely fond of the subway products. I need to try stuff.
My main goal in this is overall room sound optimization .
Get the sound I like out in the room in the most consistent manner, drummer is finally going electric. Guit, ampless, in ear on the horizon, so imperitive that I get prepped for ampless too.
This is stage 1 .
Doesn't mean I will :)

When you said, "...ampless," I felt a chill and shuddered briefly.

I haven't been in this thread for a while since I received my Hathor 1506 and Hathor 1203 a while back. Just a quick report that they have been phenomenal cabs for me and my Mesa Subway D-800+. I have been using the H1506 solo for most performances, but stack them for outdoor stuff.

One thing I neglected (stupidly) was to test different combinations of using the port plugs. I just took the plugs out when I received the cab and never used them. DUMB! By plugging them into the H1506 it completely changed the responsiveness and feel of the cab. I like "quicker" cabs, and they make a tremendous difference in the tightness and articulation of notes. (Physics, right?) My favorite combination was plugging two ports and leaving one open. It gave a tighter response but left a good amount of low end. I haven't played amount much with the H1203 yet, but that's next.

Anyway, don't be like me and ignore the ports. It's every bit a part of the sound as the other settings. I'm sure I'm probably just repeating what others have said, but they REALLY make a difference.

I know where you're coming from, I feel the same about my 1505... I wouldn't ever part with it. I did sell my single 1203 but a stack of 1203's is a very wonderful thing indeed and not easily dismissed.

Funny, I was thinking about maybe going in the opposite direction. Add a H1203 so that I could conquer any combination of cab needs (H1506/H1203/H1203). Many combinations or a monster stack all together. Two H1506's does sound like a great idea, but I guess I'm never in need of THAT much power.

Have you gigged all 3 cabs together (1506/1203/1203)?

No, never stacked them or used in conjunction or combination. I either take the pair of 12s or the 15.

I stumbled onto AK by sheer chance. I'm into gigging, not equipment, just wanted something as small & light as reasonably possible. Sick of pushing big rigs across gravel parking lots in the rain at 1:30 a.m. Took a flyer on AK and pleasantly surprised, using it for several years. Duke is part of the package. Mesa heads, too. The Rona has turned the scene upside down around here, one H1506 plus a spare at home might be all I'll ever need again, sorry to say. Carry on!

Being the recipient of said 1203, and having gigged the 1505 a sort time ago, it’s a killer cab for sure. Definitely one of the best I’ve ever played through. Hoping to test the “stack of 1203” theory as soon as Duke is taking orders again. Still debating on whether to get the tall or standard version.

Yeah, I still have a 1203 on my shopping list to have the stack. Pretty happy with my single Changeling for now though!

I'm running 76 P w/EMG GZR and flats > Radial Firefly DI > Genz Shuttle 9.0 > Hathor 1203 as my rig, and it really sounds great. It covers the vast majority of gigs that I do, but I'm usually really pushing the head to its limits when we get to outdoor gigs. It'd be nice to have the extra headroom and the extra presence that comes with two cabs. Plus we generally do a lot of festival and concert in the park type shows, and it'd be nice to have a legit looking (ultra light) stack behind me. ;)

Same here: I have a C1203T and extremely happy with it. A short while ago I came very, very close to buying a gently used Hathor 1203 to pair with it, but it slipped away from me. When things go back to normal and we can gig again here (and when Duke takes orders again), I very well might order another Changeling 12. I'm not making any major investments until such time though - I live in an old apartment building and I have to practice with headphones unless I know for a fact everybody else is out (which rarely happens these days), so my one cab is seeing very little use. Or I can play at very, very low volume if I barely "crack open the valve" on my amp, but breaking out all the gear just to play so quietly is more of a pain in the arse than anything else, really.

Still, I guess I'm an optimist...I keep having dreams of outdoor gigs with my new band in a hopefully not-too-distant future summer, and I can definitely picture myself with two Changelings stacked behind me and the stupid grin I'd have on my face.

*sigh*
