Avatar Cabs.

I own 2 older B212 cabs, both loaded with Eminence Delta 12LF drivers (they don't use these anymore, best driver on the market IMHO) that I paid about 200.00 each for and they rock. 1000 watts @ 4 ohms, 70lbs each and with a good set of casters they are pretty easy to move. They both rock with either my SVT-CL, my 830 watt or my 1000 watt rack setups. I don't use them as much as my Dr. Bass 2, 112LF cabs these days but I won't part with them.

The only drawback for me was the carpet covering my cat loved a little too much. I really think they are a good deal for the price but I honestly recommend you search out a used one. The Neo cabs are nice but I really like the headroom of my cabs more.

using the search function may be listed in the rules...but I doubt anywhere it says the person that points it out should be condescending and/or downright ugly...there are helpful ways that point this out, and there are ways that aren't...being condescending is not helpful, and turns people away from an otherwise very insightful resource....
For those so easily angered by repetitious threads, and enjoy being the "THREAD POLICE", and killing the positive energy of a new thread, may I quote Moderator John Turner's advise to me. " Just keep on going till you find a thread you like." It works wonders for me! Try to keep in mind that all of us have varying degrees of education and IQ's, and may not be as well versed as some of the self appointed moderators. I personally enjoy a fresh out look from the owner of a new piece of equipment, or for those who are about to buy. Although repetitive threads are the norm around here, people with over zealous, condescending attitudes, who take the time to type hundreds of words to correct someone else mistakes, need to "keep on going" as Mod John Turner has so eloquently phrased it. I was in GC earlier today, and was about to buy a DR.Bass 1/15 cabinet till I tested it and found it was buzzing. I had hoped to read maybe a reference to this cab in this thread, because I had believed them to be similar.

School me on these.

Are they any good? How do the sound? Can they handle high volumes well?

I want to get a lighter rig going and I thinking maybe 2 2x10 Neo cabs or 2 1x12 or maybe 212 or a 210 and 112 cab?

Right now I have a Peavey Pro 500 Head and matching back breaking Pro 410 cab (98lbs) And I am so tired of lugging that heavy beast around. Plus we are sporting 2 Toyota Corollas now, hard as hell to carry a big rig now. Use to have a pick up for that... *sigh**

The head can got to 2ohms but I'm thing of going Genz Benz Shuttle or T.C.Electronics 2.0 that only goes to 4...

Any insight or thoughts are greatly welcomed.

And if anyone is using these cabs, could you post a pic or 2? I'd love to see them, I'm thinking blonde w/ wheat myself.

Thanks for any help guys.

Are they any good? The main component of a cabinet is the driver, and Avatar uses one of the best. And the cabinets seem very well made too.

I own a B210 and a B212, both neo. I've had the B212 for about a year and a half, and it sounds better all the time. The 210 goes deep and loud, but the 212 is definitely more ballsy. The 210 is probably punchier. I can't say there is much color in the sound, but they are bassy, punchy and loud.

As far as power, I run a pretty large power amp and I've never heard the slightest complaint from the cabs. (I try not to overdo it.) I can gig the 212 alone, but not the 210 (haven't tried, maybe it doesn't have what it takes, maybe I'm afraid to push it that hard). When I gig them together, anything is possible.

I think Avatar is a great middle-road option. They compete on price with Hartke, GK, Behringer, but unlike other low-price brands that often use their own "mystery" drivers, Avatar uses world-class Eminence drivers known for quality. And for me, it's hard to justify spending 2 or 3 times more to get what some consider a "better" sound from Aguilar, etc.

Good luck! :hyper:

I recently got involved in TB. The thing that impressed me the most was the openess of members all at different levels of knowledge an experience. It makes it a comfortable place to exchange ideas, explore and learn. After all we all have the same love for the music:)
I had an Ampeg 410HLF that was to heavy for me to reckon with. I went on a search for a lighter cab with good sound. The feedback I got from TB, plus a great deal from a TBer motivated me to buy a neo 410 Avatar. I was blown away with the sound which I found to have more depth and range of sound than the Ampeg. IMHO, they are fantastic cabs, ESPECIALLY for the money.

Steve likes Avatar! I will never, ever, second guess my rig. I just finished it, and plan to keep it for years to come.

FYI, you rock Steve!

You guys rock!

Dr.Bass? hmmm.. I will "Search" those. I tried last night, but it wouldn't search it...

Any other NEO Low cost alternatives?

Dr. Bass Cabs Site

Here's a TB thread about Dr. Bass cabs. Some people are complaining because the wait for their cabs has been long but they are a small company and their business has been booming. They are moving to a larger facility to keep up with demand.
TB Dr. Bass Thread

Avatar cabs are probably the best cabs "for the money" you can get. Plenty of stuff is (subjectively) better, but not at the same price point as the Avatars. I've heard zero complaints from Avatar owners.

Precisely the point!
I had a mesa diesel 2x15 and did the first iteration of the Fearful cab by using the Carvin LS1503 and the 3015lf Eminence in it. With my power amp driving that and others together I would have missed the EV Diesel even though the experts said the 3015lf is the holy grail with a midrange.
Point is you have to try em. In my case my house burned down and I had no basses or amps or cabs so I ordered an Avatar neo 2x12 and a markbass lmII and was happy as a clam for medium sized needs. I just added an Acme LowB-2
and am driving both with the Genz Benz 1200 watt micro.
This combo Rocks through the spectrum. But as gas rules I might try a Fearful too.
Good news about Avatar is they sell scratch and dent on E-bay and their website. A can't go wrong purchase IMHO

Yeah I forgot to mention, this is how I got my B210/orange tolex. Regular eBay auction for "scratch and dent" direct from Avatar. Price ended up being about $30 less than buying "new" and the defect was ... well, there really wasn't one that I could find. Dave told me where it was, but it must be pretty small.

Made a great deal even better.

Different animal altogether. I'm one of the many waiting for a Dr. Bass cab. Again, if we knew what sound you were after - Marc (the Doctor) specializes in three-way full range cabs, like Accugroove, the added value being in the crossovers that distribute your output across low, mid and high freq outputs. Not necessarily an "old school" sound, though Marc does also make conventional two-way, and for that matter, tweeterless (one way) boxes.
