Avatar Cabs.

School me on these.

Are they any good? How do the sound? Can they handle high volumes well?

I want to get a lighter rig going and I thinking maybe 2 2x10 Neo cabs or 2 1x12 or maybe 212 or a 210 and 112 cab?

Right now I have a Peavey Pro 500 Head and matching back breaking Pro 410 cab (98lbs) And I am so tired of lugging that heavy beast around. Plus we are sporting 2 Toyota Corollas now, hard as hell to carry a big rig now. Use to have a pick up for that... *sigh**

The head can got to 2ohms but I'm thing of going Genz Benz Shuttle or T.C.Electronics 2.0 that only goes to 4...

Any insight or thoughts are greatly welcomed.

And if anyone is using these cabs, could you post a pic or 2? I'd love to see them, I'm thinking blonde w/ wheat myself.

Thanks for any help guys.

I did do a search, did not see that thread above. Most of what I seen was mention of the cabs, or what should I get or color, no real meat and potato discussion on them. And I read through the first 5-7 pages of 25 pages mentioning the cabs.

Sorry if my thread offended you on you Sunday afternoon. And thanks for your "input"

Are you incapable of using the search button, it's Sunday afternoon, I'm not ready for this.

Yeah, their good - SEARCH.

Honestly, I'm almost as sick of seeing responses like this as people like you are sick of seeing repetitive threads.

There's not much left that hasn't already been discussed, so if you'd rather see the forum die then by all means continue with these types of responses. Otherwise my opinion is to either answer the poster's question or just ignore the thread if you don't like repetition.

I've been reading/posting on this site for 9 years and I clicked on this thread to see what others have to say about Avatar cabs, not drivel like this..

Hey, take a chill pill brother. If your going to ask about a product, for crying out loud do a search first.

And as long as we are being forum nazi's, I think you meant they're, instead of their...

I agree.

And I will add that new people to the forums may not get a chance to answer the old questions with their new experiences. Just because someone 20 years ago observed and posted his opinion on the difference between a J and P, does not mean that the topic is not open to more conversation. And when you get to the point that you think the conversation is over, that's when you should probably stop hanging on the forums and go practice or take up a new instrument.

I have searched for past posts that I have done before because I want to reference them in new posts. And they do not always pop up as easy as I think they should using the search function. Using key words they do not always pop up quickly and I resort to searching on my user name. Point is, search does not always pull out all the stuff.

I have an Avatar 2x10 and 1x12 that I use for quick setup/break downs on gigs and for parties, very portable great sounding rig that fits in my little car.
I think they sound very good for the price I paid, and I compared them to all the other cabinets available at GC, Sam Ash, etc. And I liked the way my jazz basses sounded through the Avatars much better, especially with the head I'm using.
I find that they sit well in a rock n roll band context and even cuts well enough for some progressive metal gigs Ive done.
IMO Avatars are great for what I do and Im glad Ive saved some money on a good product. NO issues with durablity or realilbity and Ive had these cabinets for 2 years. Im sure that you will get others saying dont waste your time and buy the high end stuff because they are much better and so on and so forth. I say to each his own. But its hard to beat a great sounding cabinet and thats well made and durable for a decent price, as I bought mine before the price hikes.

Hope this helps

I have three Avatar cabs; all of them have the 12" drivers. I'm a huge fan of my stack consisting of two SB112 cabinets. I also really like the Avatar B212 that I have at home. It sounds very nice. Due to my limited experience with other cabs I can't really compare them to anything. I don't have an ear for minor tonal differences.

I read a lot about their 210 and 410 cabinets and how they're great options. I'm a big enough fan of the 12" speakers that I'll probably stick with them for whatever else I may need. My two SB112s are each 8 ohm cabs so my BX500 is operating at a 4 ohm load (500 watts as rated by Carvin). I could theoretically add another set of SB112s for the full 2 ohm load but this setup is plenty loud.

I'm sure you'd be like the many other Avatar customers that love their cabs. I keep going back and Dave has always been quick and friendly. :)

I got it for a practice cab, because it was cheap. Didn't care if it sounded halfway decent, I'd be happy. Just for practice..

I was wrong. It sounds really good. And I use EA vl210s on big gigs, so I have boutique cabs.

Its brighter than the EAs, not as flat, not as much low end. But they sound pretty darn good. The Avatar blew away the 210 SWR Goliath JR it replaced. Hands down.

I'd buy another.

Randy

I'm using 4X10 with an Ampeg SVt 4pro and it sounds great. It replaced an ampeg 2X10 and 1X15 and I get better highs and lows with it. Been using it for about 2 yrs, 60+ gigs no problems and really light too.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

As far as Avatar cabs are concerned, they're the best bang for the buck. Sure there are better cabs out there and sure you could spend a lot more money on a better sounding rig. However, to get a cab that costs less than $400 and to have it sound as good as they do and to be able to handle the wattage like they do for the money, there's nothing out there close to it, unless of course you buy used.
