Buy it and a new pick guard. Remove the unholy demon-spawned pickup and cover the hole with new pick guard. Cream would be a good color.

This sounds like the way to go. You can sell the MM pickup to recoup some $, which makes said "very cheap" bass even less expensive. Or.... have that pup installed in the bridge position.
Either way, you have options.

Thank you for your answers. Do you recommend me to buy this or a normal Squier Jazz as a backup bass? I don't have the chance to test the one in the picture so it might be a risky purchase.

Squier CV JBs are worth the money IMO and have a market for resale so they're easy sell if you decide you don't like it.

Squier VM JBs can be very good but I'd prefer to try a VM first. Some are nice, most acceptable and a few aren't very good at all.

A frankenbass is a crapshoot so I'd only buy one if it played well, sounded good, and had an extremely good price tag. Odds of recovering much on resale are small to nil. So keep that in mind when you're looking at the asking price.

That's a Gibson EB pickup made specifically for that position. Very different from the Music Man pickup.

My SWAG is the Mm pickup will be brighter than the Gibson pickup.

Hi. A local seller offered me a weird p bass with a stingray pickup near the neck. Should I purchase it? It is very cheap but i don't really know if it's a real fender as the seller claims. Here are some photos. Thank you all.

Without being able to examine it I'd take a pass unless it is cheap enough that it doesn't bother you if it's a total dud. The MM pickup is so far out of position that the strings don't even line up with the poles .

I can't say anything about if I'd consider it worth it w/o knowing what they want for it.

And can they at least send you a short clip demoing its functionality, maybe pics long-ways of the neck for relief/straightness info?

That body looks a lot like Maui blue from the early 90's "Squier Series." I had a Korean one from 1993, and it was a great bass. If there's any chance it's one of those, I'd grab it in an instant...

I'd make that an alternate main because it's weird.
