Hi TBers,
I am on the hunt for a new rig and hoping that some of the Latin players here can help me out. I play in a Latin boogaloo band where we also do straight up salsa. It's a 10 or 11 piece depending on the gig and who shows up, but we usually have three singers and two or more horns, bongos, timbal, conga, keys, and myself. We try to keep the sound close to the 60s originals, but we also have original tunes written in that style.
So the main question is: What amp would you suggest that compliments the Baby bass well? Cost is not the main concern, but I also don't want to spend three years waiting to find some rare bird on the used market, either.
I listened to some clips from another TBer of the Aguilar db680, and really liked its warmth and bounce. Not sure what amp to pair it with, though. It seems like that might work well with the Baby, but I wanted to hear your thoughts. The DB359 sounded similarly great, but seemed to have a little less bounce. The clips werent done with a Baby, so I'm pretty much guessing what they would sound like...
Anywho, I'm currently playing my brother's SWR Bass 750 through an older design (side by side) Epifani 2x12. This 750W setup has provided enough stage volume for all but one of the gigs I've played with the group. I used to play a Glockenklang Heart Core through the Epi before I began playing Latin music exclusively.
What do you guys suggest I check out?
