Bacchus, Show 'em if you've got 'em!

I'm getting serious GAS looking at those Jazz Basses. They sound good from what I've heard on youtube, they have nice finish and scale lenght!! options and they are low cost. To me it seems like it may be a serious contender vs Sire V7s.

I don't think there is a cheaper way of getting them for us in Europe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was trying to get my hands on one of these a while back and couldn't find one anywhere (I live in Ireland) Ended up getting a sire Marcus Miller V7, which wasn't even a brass ring, I was super excited to get that and am very very happy with it but damn if this aint sexy

The Bacchus are handmade instruments. They are a higher quality than Sires. I think Sires are cool but if you buy a Bacchus DX, you have a handmade bass with high quality matched wood, hand wound pickups, a top tier preamp and the best Gotoh components.

Hi. At this point we do not stock STR basses. But as an authorized dealer we can order any custom bass or any bass they already have made and is in their stock.

If I understood their website, only the higher end ones are handmade in Japan, while the cheaper ones (like the 500$ ones I was looking) are made in Philippines, so the are in the same price range as sires.

Right, that's why I said DX as mostly those are posted in this thread with some crafts (also hand made).

I'd probably go Sire over the lower end Bacchus's.

Has just the right amount of growl and burp. Sounds very full without being muddy at all. The notes on the D and G strings carry a lot of weight and punch but, are not thin or muddy. I was so in love with the tone the whole night that I completely forgot to put it in "boost mode" and try that live. I think that I have a new #1. It's that damn good!

Just scrolling through this thread today.No one commented on your bass but OMG!!!!!! That is such a phenomenal looking bass and i am sure it sounds as good as it looks. This past year i purchased 2 of their Craft series basses....one Brown Oil Ash with Rosewood board and the other Natural Ash with Maple board. What great instruments. Had to type in The New Romance to see if i could hear the bass in action....man you guys are AWESOME. I live near Lancaster,PA

If there is any complaint I could ever make about these amazing basses is that they can be tough to sell due to name recognition. I thought about selling my passive Jazz just to go to a full active one with an ebony neck, but I think I'd rather just keep the passive Jazz and slowly add to my collection over time. I just barely ever record or need passive anymore but it would be tough to get a good offer from anyone who is not that familiar with the quality of the brand. The bass is so freaking nice that it's tough to part with anyway.

Can say the same thing about any under the radar boutique brand though.

Im going to throw some TI flats on my passive J. Could be a match made in heaven since this thing sounds so clear. I just am sick of the scooped jazz tone since Ive been playing J style basses most of my life. I want to add some more mids and subtract some sizzle. The flats should get here in a week or so.

You should be able to find a used Lakland Skyline for about 800. I would recommend a DJ4 or DJ5. I have one as well as a Fender US Deluxe jazz 5 and a Fender Custom Shop jazz. The Lakland DJ5 I own is in my opinion as good or better than my US Deluxe Jazz. I actually had to upgrade the pickups in the US Deluxe to get it to sound like the DJ5 (noiseless pickups do not sound as good as true single coils). There was a DJ4 for sale in the classifieds for 750. Not sure if it's still for sale but that bass is a steal at that price

My other recommendation would be a used Standard Jazz (comes with single coils) or a G&L JB.
