Baer Amplification Megathread!

Germanic...bear..bare...behr...

And best of luck to Roger in his endeavors. That Valkyrie is one thing that's kept my interest peaked rather than a " flah in the pan" like a lot of things. Interesting conversation from him as well regarding all the other stuff involved in bringing something to market outside of just making it sound good.

...Edit: I do wish they weighed 5 lbs and came with silver grill cloth (ala Fender blackface), but I don't want to be too greedy...

We are working on a new cabinet made from Aerogel, and Eminence is working on a new proprietary diver for us that uses magnets made from Unobtainium. We expect the cab to be in the 5lb. range when completed. Of course, because the cabinet is so light, the use of a high quality "lead sled" is highly recommended to keep the cab firmly planted on the stage. :D

Oh, and Tom is correct. Baer is pronounced just like the animal.

Yeah, I love the way you are pushing the envelope, like the way you use helium-filled bubble wrap in your packaging to cut down on shipping weight. Brilliant! :D

No! Curse of the early adopter... :D

Roger, looking forward to talking to you or your people to get my order underway and bring some (more?) Baer action up to SF. :bassist:

Dang... and I actually opened this thread in my browser at about 9am... I just didn't get around to responding until I got back from lunch!

Unfortunately, there was no beer involved... so a beer amplifier would have been useless... but the option would be nice.

We are working on dialing in that cab right now. We were all set to go with Faital for the woofer on this one, but we just got a new sample from Eminence that is very promising, so we are doing some experimenting with that one before making a decision on the woofer. We expect to have the cab available in about 3 to 4 months depending on which driver we end up with.

Things are going well with the amp project right now and we have some new manufacturing partners that are helping us wrap this up. I'm feeling pretty good about it being available sometime this fall.

Thanks for the update! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I must say I'm kind of intrigued by these cabs. I would like to have a small cab solution for some of the smaller gigs we do, and a Super 12 or Super 15 might be a great way to go.

I am a huge Genz fanatic, so I always assumed I would probably just get a Quad or a 115 from them and call it a day.

But, as usual, the temptation to stray is very strongly promoted by viewing this board!

I like that these cabs were originally designed for a tube amp, albeit a completely tube amp as opposed to the hybrid I use. Based on the general descriptions of the cabs and Ken Jung's reviews and his experience with the Streamliner, it sounds like it would be a great match.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............:hmm:

Hey Bob, the Valkyrie head actually is a hybrid and not an all tube head. We refer to it as our Trans-Hybrid Preamp Technology, which basically means that the pre-amp can be either all solid state, or a tube hybrid, depending on whether or not the tube circuit is engaged. I've just found over the years that I don't really care for tube distortion through a tweeter and the mid driver gave me the tone I was after, with enough top end that I didn't feel like I was missing the tweeter. We have a few customers pairing the ML112's with the Streamliner heads and it seems to be a pretty good match up.

Ahhh. Thanks for your clarification! I am very interested.

So:
GK 1001RB>2xML112: pretty awesome.
Man, those cabs really make the most out of the power you put to them.
I spent most of the first set "turning down" from where I normally set the gain structure.

I experienced a similar thing, but I realized I was turning down a bit because I could hear the notes better with the 6in driver. I didn't have that "hole" in the upper mids from using a horn. The ML112 gives me more note presence, especially at lower volume. This is also why I like it for upright bass too.
