Bass Player Pet Peeves

-Other bassists who "don't know music, but 'have a good ear'". Man that gets me frustrated

-Being called a guitarist

-Being looked down on by a rhythm guitarist for making a mistake. Why aren't the rhythm guitarists the lowest in the band food chain?

Guitarists who play little licks from the bass lines that they like . Sorry you feel that you haven't already taken up enough sonic space, but that's MY part. What? You don't care if the music suffers as long as people are paying more attention to you? That's what I thought. While we're at it...bassists who slap in songs when it is TOTALLY inappropriate (ZZ Top, AC/DC, etc.).

+1

I hate it when someone request a song and the guitarist plays the intro to the song then quits. OR when the guitarist forgets the next song then works out the intro or main lick RIGHT before we play the song. Ruins the suprise.

I've got nothing. 28 pages pretty well covers it. Just for the hell of it:

- Replacing my deli ham with ****** 50 cent Carl Buddig ********
- Tweekers
- denver bronco fans (I refuse to capitalize denver)
- Joe Thornton for being a big puss when it comes to the playoffs.

Because that would elevate the guy with the tambourine or maracas....that would be worse than dividing by zero!
:hiding:

I'm not sure this is specific to bass, as I think is (or should be) infuriating no matter what your position in the band is, but:

Drummers who give a stick click count in which is NOT the tempo at which the song is played in. I mean, WHAT THE...? Why doesn't someone just say, "On your mark, get set... ...GO!" fer godsakes...

:rollno:

...and I'm really trying so hard to help fix this exact issue in a group I play in without being a jerk about it... but something reasonably in the ball park the tempos we consistently play the songs at would be nice for starters.

1) Musicians that never show up for rehearsal
2) Guitarist that just play fast chords during jam sessions and don't pay attention to what the rest of the band is playing
3) Guitarist who try to be bassist
4) Guitarist who try to one up everyone else riffs.

guitarists that play obscure key/chord changes with no pattern or repeat AT ALL with NO rhythm and expect me to be able to groove along...:mad::mad:

sound guys that try to tell me to mic directly into the PA :rollno::rollno::rollno:

band members that i leave messages and won't get back to me EVVEEER when i have an important question :scowl::scowl::scowl:

playing gigs and end up being the ONLY GUY who doesn't get a girl talking to him :crying::crying::crying:

I just personally dont like it.

I could manage one on a pickguard but not the body

What if the instrument's really beat up? The only one I have stickers on is this hideous flat black guitar I have with scratches all over it.

As for pet peeves:
No-show band members, especially drummers.
People referring to me as a guitarist. I'm not a ****ing guitarist. Guitar is a fine instrument and I like to play around on it occasionally, but I'm bassist, dammit.
People who never get to rehearsal on time.
Sound guys who insist on taking a direct line from the bass. I hate those guys.
Sound guys who think that drums need to be the loudest thing in the mix, to the point that they dominate everything and make the riffs hardly audible.
Lead guitarists who rush everything.
