I will say the DG B7K. I wish I could say the Meatsweats (Verellen) too but Ive never tried one. If I had though, Im pretty sure it would be there in my tops. Rusty Box is awesome as well. Not a huge fan of rackmounted pres. But there are some boss ones out there. Id really like to try/have the one from Universal Audio, the 6176 and possibly Demeter.

My only beef with that pre is the EQ isn't powerful enough for my needs. With my Barefaced cabs, the voicing doesn't pair very well and the EQ can't get things evened out. Recording direct is pretty nice with it.

Granted, the EQ is subtle and takes a while to get used to. But it works really well for my needs; I run it into a Bergantino IP112ER, sometimes adding a Berg HT112ER.
I haven't used it for recording yet, but will soon.

I really love my Brunetti 'Mister B!' but it has occasionally cut out on me so I don't take it to gigs any more.

The Read Purity is a very nice unit as well, and I have a B7K on my board.

The Jule Amps Monique is a game changer. I've read where many people said that once they heard the Monique, they realized it was the bass sound they've been looking for their whole life. That was my experience with it as well.

I went through a few pre's to supply signal to my Bergantino IP rig but settled on the Demeter HBP-1 Preamp.

3Leaf audio The Enabler - This pedal can literally do anything you ask of it and if you have limited room in your gig bag this is the pedal you need it's very well built and sounds phenomenal last time I checked it was discontinued it was pricey new but well worth the price of admission.

Fodera 2011 Preamp Pedal - This little 18v beast is a must try for any bassist that doesn't have a Fodera bass in their arsenal l love,love this pedal Mike Pope is a mad genius and this pedal is my second favorite. The only downside is it's pricey if you can find one used at a decent price don't hesitate grabbing it.

I use the Enabler as my go to pre amp for Electric Bass, it's unfortunate that you can't get one anymore. I was fortunate enough to get one last fall before they were discontinued

I have the Fodera Private Practice amp that's similar to the Fodera Pre. I wish I'd purchased one when they were available, but buying both was an expensive
proposition.

Well I own a Tech 21 RBI and a BBE BMax. Love them both. The RBI is hot though. Can drive any power amp.

I really like the Tech21 as well. How does it compare to the BBE?

Man, my choice us downright embarrassing!

But as a mediocre gigging bassist I love my Fishman Pro Platinum EQ Bass Preamp. The older discontinued model. They have great, useable features: HPF, decent one knob compressor, effective EQ, pre/post, powered by 9v battery, 9v power supply or phantom power, and even a phase switch. AND they're great for electric or upright.

I liked my PreSonus Studio Channel ... was the stereo unit ... useful for lots of stuff .. ! from mics - gtrs - synths - bass .... I had upgraded the tubes ... JJ long plates ... ecc803s .?

also liked the older SWR tube pre ... if you want that SWR sound ..

now I'm running a Line 6 HD ProX ... which is kinda weak on the bass pre end of things ... so I put a MXR 81 in front of it for my passive basses ... for a little more tone control ... works fine for that ...

also had a tube/SS/hybrid Peavey preamp ...was OK

tried a few Focusrite channel strips ... but not really meant for bass ...

also tried to kinda make my own by using a ART TubePac pre/comp into a ART tube dual EQ ...

what's better ..?? whatever sounds best to YOU ..!

I have the fender in the fx loop of the Demeter. The Demeter has tons of clean warm open tone and with a press of a button I get that crunchy tube Motown sound.
