Oh, it only took putting my hand on the area above the tranny after running it wide open for a while to teach me to give it room. It's in a 3U case one rung up from bottom with a 1U Symetrix 501 at the very top. Even still, it gets hot enough that I want to put some fans in the back...

The one I Have has seen a hard life, and I think it needs a once over by an experienced tech. I've been occupied with other rigs lately, but this is inspiring me to get that SWR/Marshall/SWR (Goliath II cab) rig running again. I was looking for another Goliath II to make it an 810 and let the Marshall breathe, but I just can't find another one locally.

I'm also not totally satisfied with the Weber attenuator vs. running a speaker in the amp out, so I'd also like to get a small inefficient 1x8 or 1x10 cab to run out back...

So fans, another 410 cab and a small cab left to get. Good thing it's worth it...

Funny as it may seem, I've never played through any of the SansAmp stuff. I need to get around to that someday.
Of these I've only played through the Alembic in a live rig all the rest were studio rack gear:

Avalon U5
Alembic F-1X
Yamaha PB-1
Art Tube Pre (forget which model)

Love that Fender TB1 and some Sans Amp...BUT to me the best pre/DI I have played through (and best any bass of mine has ever recorded or sounded) was with the Manley Tube DI:

tried like heck (still trying twice a year) to buy this unit...guy doesn't play or record anymore..but the two things he will not part with are the MIJ ATK I sold him (dumb..but he was touring and I was bandless..and he loved it sooo much) and this unit...I think they discontinued this model a while back and focus more on mic pres and other areas...

Anyone have one they want to part with? :)

SWR ST-220 - can be used as standalone or preamp. Amazing sound but underpowered for playing anything louder than a cubicle. Using it as preamp & boosting it through power amp & the sound can't be beat! Just love that classic pre-Fender SWR sound & found this discontinued gem for a steal! No matter what I end up using in the long run I will prob never part with it because it is a great studio head!

This thread is pure drool inducing...not good for my wallet;)

my fave is the B7K!! Not sure if this qualifies as a pre, but i also find the Hardwire cm2 is great as an always on tube sound, sound spot on like the blue tube and swell bpeg, and i mean identical tone and drive for a fraction of the cost!!
