Bass Whammy Petition!

I'll admit that I have no experience with the Bass Whammy. I've never been able to try one. From what I understand, it sounds like it would be a great, almost essential, tool for any bassist who wants to do some serious experimenting and layering.

My angle on the whole thing is on the business side. If there truly is enough demand out there for a reissue of this pedal, then why isn't Digitech supplying and making money? Either there is not enough demand to make it worth Digitech's design and production, or Digitech is oblivious to to the demand. Thoughts?

just as many bass players as guitar players buy whammies... digitech could make half as many wh-4s and reissue bass whammies, many of us are more then willing to spend about $300 for a bass whammy, there are a lot of crazy people who will even go as high as the $600 for a bass whammy.... the reason digitech doesnt want to reissue the bass whammy is because they dont make much profit from the wh-4... making less wh-4s will make them worth more, and making reissue bass whammies at $250-$300, would be the best game plan i think

The eprom that is installed in the whammy has a program. If you have a reader for that type of eprom, you can caopy and flash another.

All you need to do is install that chip in a new whammy (assuming they are based on the same design) and you have one.

Aftermarket Parts suppliers for cars do it all the time. There is even a company out there that can reflash in the car using the OBD2 port. It switches the program from stock to modified, and can be switched back in 10 minutes...

Anyone want to find out what the inside of these look like, Bass whammy and new whammy 4??? If they are the same, with the exception of the program, lets find out what model reader/flasher we need, and make them ourselves...

I was looking through my BP8 after I replied to this thread a minute ago, and the whammy functions in it are basic, but some of the better ones are there. There's a 5th up/ octave up that sounds purty nice...

Edit: I was kinda making sure I had the right settings in mind when I posted that, and found a little info on wiki...

Used on "Eulogy" (fifth up/sixth up harmony), "Pupoopie(Live)" (fifth up/octave up harmony) "Third Eye (octave up)," "Schism" (octave up), Ticks and Leeches (fifth up/octave up harmony), "Lateralus" (octave up), "Disposition" (fifth up/octave up harmony), "Vicarious" (octave up harmony), "The Pot" (octave up) and "Right In Two"(fifth up/sixth up harmony).

I just took a quick peek, and all those settings are on the BP 8 floor processor (not much more than that, but those are there).

I'd just like to ask the folks who are so adamant that there won't be a reissue whether they are going on personal opinion, or facts straight from Digitech? I couldn't really care less about the Whammy, because I'm sure you could get the same effect from the Boss pitch shifter and an expression pedal, but I'm interested in how some people seem to have the inside track on Digitech's business model.

Read the thread. The answer is there... it's just much further back.

Surprisingly, some of us DO have the inside track on their business model... :p

EDIT: Also, the Boss PS-5 can't do everything the Whammy can, and vice-versa. The PS-3 can, but they sound very different.
