When I read the various discussions about some of the wackiness going on there, I had the same thought. Guys getting all fired up on one forum to orchestrate a massive troll offensive on another forum... geez... get a life already... :help:
I guess that's just what a bunch of free-thinking, honest, blunt people do with their time. But yeah, somehow they think TB is way worse.:beaver:

I visited over there when it first started and I always liked those guys sure a little rowdy but good dudes. I just read the story and I really hope Ed gets the help he needs. I stopped going there because I wasn't exactly one of the guys more of a hang around and ended up back here for bass content and music. I was happy for that crew that they had a nice spot and had fun and it's sad friendships ended and things got hairy. But that's life falling outs happen.

Get well Ed.

I signed up over there. Didn't post much. Didn't see much that interested me. In any case, from my experience being a member of quite a few forums and being a mod at one once, I find that moderation is needed.......badly sometimes. While this is a great forum, I do get annoyed at certain members who can't seem to be accepting (I hate slap) and less opinionated (your cheap PA gear sucks) but at least the mods respond when contacted and take care of the nonsense. There are other forums filled with juveniles who don't care who they insult. I want no part of that. Talkbass is fine. I'll stick around!

Ed tried to take breaks. He would even announce it. He'd comment in a thread and then just turn around and say "Ok, I'm gone until the end of the week" But, as @Jay2U said, he would just lurk and come back.

I had a long private exchange with Ed at Christmas time and he looked like he was in a better place. He was making personal, professional, and health related changes. It looked like he was going in the right direction and putting a bunch of stuff behind him. Then, the next day, there was a major trolling incident spurred on by the fratbois yet again. It's funny because they said they were not really trolling on BT, but on FBK, where they were coordinating it, they were referring to it as "the troll thread". I'm not going to name the usernames of those involved, because they are mostly all members here as well, but they were just acting like little kids yet again. You can't expect Ed to stay away and try to get to a better place when stuff like that is happening all the time.

You know, there were just childish impossible characters there. This anecdote really summarizes what kind of people we are talking about. In the effects forum at bt we started a Secret Santa thing for Christmas. We had a thread with the rules and where we would discuss GAS lists to try to make it easier on people. Anyway, this member that I will not name, who was a member here as well, kept trolling the Secret Santa thread and spamming it with pet adoption posts. He kept at it even after mods and other users told him it was enough. I even PM'd him and all I got back was ridiculous hateful replies. Anyway, he just stopped one day, just dropped off the map. Two weeks later people found out he had died.

So, this "adult" is at death's door. He's got serious medical issues. However, he spends his last days on earth trolling the a Secret Santa thread in the effects forum of a bass site. There was an outpouring of grief and condolences for the guy on here and at BT after his passing. I did not know the guy, but I will remember him simply as a troll, because that is who he was.

For most normal balanced people, this is just an internet forum. For some, it's wayyyy more than that unfortunately.

I also thought the troll you speak of was a pain in the neck, but to be fair, his demise might have been just as much of a surprise to him as it was to us. We don't know the details. Whatever happened over there, it's done. I for one enjoyed it while it lasted. Onwards and upwards.

Ed and I had long conversations too. Most of the time about gardening, site maintenance and some trolls. I prefered not to speak about private matters between him and other forum members. I don't want to hear such stories from one side only.

From the moment I sensed things might go wrong, I told how I handle stress and how I never get personal on a public forum. I tried to convey how I stay cool. I also let him know that we could run the show without him. Two of us had admin rights, so we really could manage without the boss.

It didn't work out. :banghead:

I sincerely hope he'll find peace in his garden and greenhouse... and better medication.

Near as I can tell, I was out of bounds for complaining about a couple people calling my band "mediocre," and all of a sudden, there was an overall feeling that I brag too much, and have "a bunch of sycophants who hang on my every word." I wear fringe, have long hair, and think I'm all that. Some of those guys took some pretty mean-spirited and personal shots at me, and believed I had a LOT more animosity towards them than I did, but it has long since been water under the bridge, as far as I'm concerned.

I readily admit that I can be a bit of an ass, and one thing to consider on this bass forum is that my primary job in bands has been LEAD SINGER, so it's not like I've never been too full of myself, or anything. That said, I am a pretty nice guy, and have my bouts with humility too. I've taken a lot of abuse in my lifetime, and don't really plan on taking too much more. I'm opinionated, and have a sense of humor some find hard to understand or tolerate.

I wish all of those guys the best, especially Ed. I'm not out to see anyone suffer, that's for sure.

I gotta hand it to you mellow these days you seem a lot more.....don't make me say it *sigh* mellow.

I'm seldom in favor of public airing of dirty laundry but I appreciate your respectful take on your experience.

Well done.

no need to contact anyone. Ed is dealing with a medical issue and in HIS own words,.. "the meds are screwing up his mind, body, and soul". he's hyper-sensitive to the side effects apparently and was debating a sale of BT. that didn't happen and that's a damn shame. the place was fun with enough cool folks that i felt very fond of. it had some awesome contributors, namely the "Pedal Breeder Crew" and the infamous FBK Possè!
also, a special thanks to Tat, Adi, Jay, Tan, Ryan, Chuck, Josh, Beef, Ben, Emmi, DFB, Nukes, R.I.P., Dave, Bull, Shredder and of course, Ed!!!
if i left any of my friends names out, it wasn't on purpose,...

GET WELL SOON, ED!!!
'Twas a sad ending. George Harrison said it best: All Things Must Pass. Everything has its end at some point in time; some things earlier than others. Unfortunately, this thing ended too soon.

It was a nice six-ish months I was there. I mostly came because of the Breeder semi-exodus, but I did have fond relations with other members (some of whom are still here). Ultimately, that's kind of why I'm back here; I developed a nice rapport with the Breeders, and still want to interact with them.

I do hope Ed finds the help he needs.

Also, thanks for the s/o, Paco! Was nice getting to know y'all.

So please enlighten us dear Darth.

And like Shu, please refrain from any "if you knew what I knew, you would feel differently"

Tell it like it is. We can handle it.

Perhaps it's not my place, but how about just dropping it? Everybody has their own version and you'll never agree.

And my mom can beat up both of your moms anyway.

That place was something else. It was basically formed as a safe place for the banned of this place to go. I got there and was banned in about 12 hours. So much for tolerance that they say this place lacks.

As to why is closed down, it's not the first forum I have been banned from that then closed down. ;)

Um, personally I would really like to hear @Darth Handsome's version

Oh, I get it now.

You're so hurt over the whole thing that you need to re-open a thread that was quiet for 2 days so you can argue more over something that you feel privy to, or more privy to than DH, and you may be right. Dragging it around here for everyone to read is okay to a point, but you are also feeding the trolls that hated the guys that left to start that place.

By dragging the argument on and on, is that just a way to garner "likes" from them?

Trust me, I was as interested as anyone as to why it closed, I'm just as worried about Ed as you, but this discussion has reached a point where it's just sickening he said he said garbage.

No not at all.

I would genuinely like to hear how @Darth Handsome sees the whole thing.

And I just hadn't read the thread for two days. That's why I am asking now.

And dude - stop reading into things. If you are sick of it, just don't click on the thread.

Being objective here lads, everyone is of course entitled to their opinion, however, at this stage I cant see it as "he said, he said" because all Darth has said is that nshuman is wrong and he has offered nothing else.

I wasn't there when all of this went down and if Darth was and has a different view Id be interested in hearing it.

As for the comments which are nothing to do with the thread and are making personal comments about others, perhaps the Mods can look at those?
