I bought a made in China neck-thru mockingbird, that I modified : gutted the electronics, & pick-ups, I replaced the pick-ups with Bartolinis , a Bart NTBT pre-amp, & I wired it up to 18 volts. I also replaced the nut , with a bone nut , spent a lot of time dressing up the frets , & dialing in the bridge. The bass seems to like DR Highbeams, for some reason. I strung it up with my usual DR Sunbeams, & it just didn't sound all that good. I happened to have a set of Highbeams laying around, put them on, let them settle in for a day went back tuned it back up again , & wow { what a difference a day makes } the highbeams really made the bass come alive. I've got this thing { my hobby }, about modifying low cost basses, that have really good solid necks ,& bodies. Usually when I'm done, what was once just an ok bass , has been transformed into a really nice playing & sounding instrument. Then I sell them for a fair price. But this one, I'm so happy with the way it came out , that I'm going to keep it. Now I just have to deal with resetting the strap locks, so that the headstock doesn't, keep heading toward the ground . The neck dive on this bass, is much worse that on a Thunderbird. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,the Widow is a 2007 Customshop,absolutely stunning bass

The Ironbird is a work in slow planning LOL,the original neck was twisted,a friend bought me this neck, but it has a terrible front bow and the truss rod is on maximum.
So,i got a NJ II Warlock to use the 100 piece neck on the ironbird, but unfortunately there was nothing wrong with the Warlock,so the Ironbird remains a work in progress

I was checking out your Mockingbird, & where your strap buttons are placed. On mine, the top one is in a different place, it's on the back of the bass, instead of on the horn. How is the balance on your Mockingbird ? I need to balance mine better. Thanks

The quilted Maple one, also had it's strap pin on the rear of the top horn, but some previous owner moved it:(

However the trans Brown Phil Lynott Mock has it's front strp button in the same place (Factory) and to be honest, they both try to neckdive, that is the nature of the beast I'm afraid, but Mockingbird players remember to always have their right forearm resting on the top of the bass,so in reality it doesn't become much of an issue, also use the widest leather strap you can find and Straplocks!:)

This is kinda interesting. Back in, shoot, July?, Wrong Robot hooked me me with a Mockingbird knock-off. Not a serial number or mark on it, other than being neck through, and bearing the F (which conveniently gives it the name The Fockingbird).

But, what makes it interesting is that it's got the full electronics package from the vintage type Riches. Six way rotary switch, phase and coil select, all that. It's currently wired up with dual EMGs and V/V/T, but all the wiring is in place if I got some four lead pickups.

Anyone know anything about such a beast? The shop WR got it from told him it was a custom. This was many years ago, so he's not sure if the bass itself is a custom, or if they might have been referring to the pickup swap, or what. Figured this'd be the place to ask.

That my man is a Fernandes Mockingbird Copy. They are well known for making them, Very nice copies, Nothing wrong with them at all. It was a standard production line bass.
