here.oh yeah, on zzounds u can find free shipping ( on almost everything )

Musician's Friend and Guitar Center both have no payments or interest for a year deals, so you can get something nice and make payments on it.
It will save you money on upgrades to buy something decent the first time.
Free shipping on guitars and some amps.
Good luck.

Hit CL and look for some one that's getting rid of their bass and amp...

I got both my daughter and sons first set ups for $100 ea...

Son got a Peavey Raptor guitar and a Kustom practice amp...

Daughter got a Peavey Milestone bass and a SWR LA8 practice amp...

Both play well for beginner intruments and it's a lot more fun when you're just starting out if you can hear what you're playing through an amp...

Good luck and keep us posted on what you get and your progress...

A Peavey Millennium is a nice choice too, but not "WAY" better than an Ibanez GSR / SR / SRX. ;)

my church ( i know it's awful ) has a GSR 205. oh my god, it is so bad. neck bent, pick-ups are moved, action is super high and it sounds like...

i also played a C4.man, u can't compare those, not at all.

sheep, u can try to search a peavey Grind.a used one it's cheap ( if u don't want a new one ) man, i began with a peavey and it helped me so much!!! alot!!!
my opinion is that peavey make the BEST instruments for low budget!!! let me say it again: BEST!!!!!

Welcome to Talkbass Sheep! Sure, I only stop by whenever I need help with something but I've always found this forum to be helpful and professional!

My first bass (and I'd recommend it to anyone) was an ESP LTD B50. I'm not a whizz on basses, and I'm sure many people might like to quote me with a million reasons why it's a terrible bass but I loved the sound, feel, and playability of this bass which is why I bought it.

All for just under 200 euro! Good luck man, in the end we all end up on the same path. We just walk it our own way, and at our own pace.

The Ibanez SRX line is very good for the money. I had the SRX 300 which was a perfectly giggable bass. Great sounds and a very comfortable neck to play on. You don't need to do any mods or upgrades to improve it. The hardware, pickups and electronis are fine as they are. Fret work is excellent and they can be set up for low action easily if you want that.

At a bit lower price the GSR 200 is very good too. That's the one I'd get for a PJ type sound.

I tried a couple low cost Squier basses yesterday. They were pretty good with a decent sound. I didn't like the necks all that much though. Not nearly as comfortable as the Ibanez and the fretwork is not as good. This is the type of bass where you would probably want to do a bit of work on leveling frets and smoothing off the slightly sharp ends. I don't know how the electronisc stand up with hard use. I've heard from others that they had to replace the volume and tone controls as they can quickly get noisy. The hardware seems adequate.

Lastly, if you don't mind doing some assembly and finishing work, consider getting a Bolt kit bass from Carvin. The complete package is about $420 currently for the passive 4 string model. Quality of fit. finish and parts is equal to any $1000 and more USA made bass. Their necks are unbelievably good. Wonderful fretwork. The pickups give you a very good modern Fender J type sound. They're easy to put together and finishing can be as simple as a couple coats of clear tung oil for protection.

I built one about 5 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. it's a blast to play on and very light-about 7 lbs.

Anyhow, get out and play some of these suggestions from myself and others. Then if you want to buy on line you'll be better informed to make a good decision.

u can go to americanmusical.com and break up your payments into 3 or 5 payments. I bought my G&L Tribute L2000 on a 3 pay option. If I was strapped for cash and wanted a decent bass, I would not hesitate to buy a SX from Rondo.
