Behringer XR18 X-Air

There has been a price drop to $599 for the Air18.

I called and used a internet coupon for Musicians Friend and got one for $509.

Is anyone using the XAir Q app? I have it on my Android tablet and it just won't see or connect with the mixer. With two different routers, the XAir app loads and connects, wifi is connected. I then open the XAir Q app, press the red connection icon, it shows as connected to the wifi but... it just endlessly searches for the mixer that it never finds.

i do so all the time (i'm playing, somebody else is mixing).

sometimes i fire up my 7" samsung galaxy tab 4 (who's wi-fi is "locked" to only find the PA router), fire up the x-airQ app and it's right there (connection icon is already green), then sometimes the icon is red and it won't find the mixer, acting just like you're saying.

i then find the soundguy and ask him what the IP address is, and he invariably checks his laptop, then tells me a number with the last digit a number or two off from what i have.

i correct that last digit of my address and all is well.

Yes and thank you. I was helped through this on the Beheringer forum yesterday. What I was missing was the simple act of which address I needed. Now that I know that I am all good. They recommended setting a static IP adress in the XR18 to always know what that address will be.

Gig went great with mine last night. Kick, snare, oh on drums, 2 Guitars, keys, harp, Bass, 3 vocals, 4 fb sends. Really happy with the sound on and off stage.

Spent some time with an X32 rack last Friday night on a gig. The soundguy we use has 3, yes, THREE X-32 Racks! The venue we were playing in changed their availability for us to set up (I was putting speakers on poles and running mic lines and power cables, dressed in black pants, white shirt, a tie, and a hat! We finished 10 minutes before downbeat), so I set up our monitors with my iPad while the soundguy got the house sound going (Didn't take much on the monitors, set to scream, knock out a little feedback, and we're off!).

The XR-18 served me well for a year, and I'd still recommend it, but after using the X32 rack and its app, I'll be selling my XR. There is more features and functionality with the X32 Rack that most folks may not care about, but made my life easier. This soundguy is also a great friend and is semi-permantently loaning me one of his X32 Racks. I'll eventually talk him into selling it to me.

Here's why I asked. I have worked across all three platforms now and think that I prefer the windows based X-Edit to the other. The recent iOS update closes that gap. I just tried an ASUS 2-in-1 Flip 11.6" screened tablet, one that does not screen/keyboard separate, and noticed a couple things I'd like to know are consistant across the style or just to that brand/unit. If I opened the X Edit program on the windows/lapt configuration side all was fine. If I then flipped the keyboard over and went to the tablet mode, as long as the X Edit program was open, fine. But if it was not, I could not find a way to open the X Edit program in Tablet mode. The desktop icon does not carry over and there's no app available. What am I missing or is this just the way it is? I am also considering a unit that separates into tablet and keyboard but if thst's the same way it's even worse. I could see this being a real issue live, mix from the stage, in tablet mode with the unit set up in a holder. Really inconvenient if something goes wrong. The second thing, because it was my first experience with the flip, was the awkwardness of holding the unit with the keyboard and track pad back there. In fact, teh track pad was still live in that mode and I thought it was supposed to disconnect. Pretty annoying. I want to pursure the X Edit path but with so many models available I can't do a hit or miss experimentation trying to find the right one so opinions and experiences are vry welcome.

@nervous - I'll have to try going back and forth between laptop and tablet modes to see what's up. I generally use it for stage mixing in laptop mode, but using the touch screen motions to make on-the-fly tweaks rather than use the mouse. I also use it as a hard wired network connection to an external router as a failsafe, and use an iPad for walking the room and doing wireless mixing moves if needed, or when I have someone mixing the band in the audience.

It's more of a windows laptop that has touch capabilities always available. When you fold it back on itself, it can automatically go into a "tablet mode", but I believe you can adjust this setting to be manually set. Yes, Windows 10, and yes I use x-edit for windows to run the X-Air for the PA system.

still, for like not quite twice as much as the xr18 it looks like a lot more mixer. i'm not clear on how the outs work, it only has 6 XLR aux outs but it has a bunch of 1/4" outs too. can those be used for more monitor mixes? it would be nice if this thing could give four or five stereo in-ear mixes.

(never mixed on an x32, but i do like how it has a legit iphone monitor mix app)

In addition to the 16 input XLRs and the 8 XLR outputs, there are 6 TRS inputs and 6 TRS outputs, plus some RCA connections and a USB connection on the front that is used for either playback from a USB stick or to multi-track record out to a computer. I've included a screenshot of the rear panel...

It is a lot more mixer and it may not be needed by everyone, although the extra 1/4" inputs and outputs ramp it up a lot in my mind. That and all the X32 apps, sharing band files, and the expandability (I'll probably get an S16 stage box for it later on since I'll do bigger sound jobs with it), the X32 Rack makes more sense for me and what I'll do with it.

I still think the XR18 is a great little box, but they should have stepped up a couple of things on it (and those things may be in the recent updates).

If you right click on the app and choose Pin to Start, then it will show up in your start menu for both the laptop and tablet modes. There is also a swipe gesture to get to all of your programs from the start menu in tablet mode. I've been using an Asus Transformer windows 2 in 1 as well. Great way to access the X18.

Love this, thank you! I hace an Acer Aspire Switch 11 OTW that looks like it may address some of teh physical issues I had with the ASUS flip so I may be back with questions.

No problem. I work in IT and I know that the transition to Windows 10 was hard for a lot of people. But, with a few basics, it is actually really nice and has the same interface with a tablet as a desktop.

One of the bands I play with has the Keys play supplying PA and doing sound, so I don't get to use my XR18. The drummer and I both like to use IEM where ever possible, but the keys player's desk doesn't have enough aux sends. I'm toying with the idea of buying 2 8 channel splitter snakes so I can take all the instruments to my XR18, so that I can supply the drummer and I stereo IEM.

Has anyone done this and did they have any issues?
If the main desk is supplying phantom power to Condenser Mics etc, will the splitter snake interfere with that?

Your splitter idea will work fine.

Phantom power from his mixer will be fine. As long as everything is wired correctly, phantom power won't cause you any problems.

Seismic Audio have some at a good price too. 15ft and 30ft tails for $220usd. I'm in Australia, which makes freight a killer.
There are some 8 channel snakes available locally with no stage box, more like a Y snake.
