I don't think you really get his point moreover you're not in a position to dismiss it because you haven't lived his experience. From my experience what he's saying is very true.

Man, I know that feeling too well. When I pick my hair out it gets to be like Ms. Spalding's. At least once a day people I don't know grab, pat, and play with my hair. Most of the time without asking. Sometimes before saying a single word to me. It almost always comes with a remark or comment about my race. 90% of the time these people are white women. I can see how it can be seen as a racial thing. However, Black and Hispanic women are not exempt by a long shot.

I've grown to get used to it, but sometimes it just gets to me. If I walked up to most people and did the same they would totally freak. And I totally understand why. But I just don't get how people have such a brazen disregard for personal space when my hair is involved.

Like I said above I've gotten used to it. I've never been bothered when someone asks to touch it. At least I have a choice in the matter at that point. People do it out of curiosity, and that's fine. I get it. I just don't like being treated like an animal in a petting zoo.I suppose I could cut my hair off, and it wouldn't be a problem (as some have suggested), but I shouldn't have to in order to preserve my PS. I just wish everyone would at least ask before bouncing my hair around.

I never said that people wanting to touch your hair gets on your nerves, and I never said he wasn't right about that. What I said was that it happens to pretty much everyone who has really curly hair, or hair that's different from straight. A friend of mine had dreadlocks for a while, and people kept asking to touch them just to see what it feels like.

Black people do not have a monopoly on people wanting to come up and touch their hair because it looks different.

And just the same, when I had long perfectly straight impeccable locks, any girl who came within touching distance of it would grab hold, run their fingers through it, and fawn all over how 'amazing' my hair was. Now, I didnt mind the female attention, but, excuse me ladies, your getting your finger oils all over my lovely hair.

I don't see the need for that; I usually learn a lot from these threads before the crap starts. There are some very insightful posts in these race threads, this one included. The trouble brews when people come in for the sole purpose of calling Cheese a whitey hater and saying to get over "it," whatever "it" is.

The old saying is old because it's true: if you don't like it, don't be a part of it. We know what these threads are about by now. We know what kinds of things get Cheese's goat. So why join in unless you intend to contribute in some way? Why go in, with nothing to add, but only to tsk tsk and finger point?

These threads aren't all bad. In comparison, though, as soon as things get political or religious...never any good. Not for a second

No way, I like Dr. Cheese and his threads. This is just one of those instances where I had to provide some evidence to the contrary.

Please do not include me as part of that club.
I can handle race related discussion so long as the people engaged can remain civil. I think Dr. Cheese shows a lot of patience in these threads with some of the mud that gets slung his way.

That's the problem, usually people can not remain civil with these types of threads, so they should be handled just like religious or political threads would.

No, the uncivil people should just stay out of them, unfortunately threads with racial content attract racists.
