Bergantino AE212; Part 2!!

Damn you Talkbass and thanks BASS SAN DIEGO and Munjibunga and Ken Jung for helping me get steered in the right direction with my new AE212 today. Very nice balanced tone with GREAT mids. Pictorial evidence soon to follow.

I was there merely to serve. I doubt anyone can switch speaker plugs better or faster than I can. Not even Doug. Especially Doug.

George layed down some chops so Doug could listen and I could do my best plug-swapping.

No doubt you are the speaker/cable swapping master of all time ! I don't think I would have made that purchase unless you were there, did you make a snap decision to come there yesterday or was that pre-planned?

I was at my office yesterday, which is a couple miles from BSD, so I decided to stop in on my way home. I might try to go over there this afternoon after practice to try some of the DNA stuff.

Just curious if anyone out there gigs a AE212 with a AE112 stacked either on top or underneath and what tonal changes/shifts result. I'm thinking of selling my Epifani stuff and getting another AE cab that matches the AE212 as closely as possible for those gigs that require it.

I heard from someone that the AE112 has more mids compared to the it's big brother as well.

I absolutely love my Epifani UL112 stack, but I'm thinking of augmenting that stack with another 212 or 410. Can any of you guys who've experienced 2 UL112s together comment on how that stack compares with a single AE212? Or should I go for an AE410 for variety?

My main amp is an Epifani UL502, but I also use a modified SWR Bass 350 for certain flavors.

If you love the UL112 stack, I would think you would love the AE212 more. I personally didn't dig the dual UL112 thing nearly as much as the UL112/110, because the UL112's always seemed to have kind of a hole in the mids I had to EQ for, but that the UL110 "fixes". The AE212 does not have such a hole, but it has the same kind of depth and breadth the UL112's have IMHO.

I would predict a VERY happy ending on that for you, but only you would be able to tell for sure of course. :)

+1 All of the good of the Epi stack (fat low end, sweet top end), but none of the bad (low midrange hole and all that space between the top of the driver response and the tweeter). Similar, and the differences are totally in favor of the AE212

I have a couple UL112s and the AE212, the Bergie sounds way tighter than the two UL112's together. I also have a AE410, the AE212 is my favorite cab right now. IMHO and all that.

Don't think I'm the Rodney implied above- but O often use my AE112/AE212 stacked vertically- with both my SVTII & My Mesa Walkabout head.
Makes for an AWESOME & LOUD rig. I've only used it at gigs where we've had substantial PA support so I cannot really furnish info for this rig getting the sound out to the audience. Tho I imagine it'd work a treat also
Main thing I noticed with this AE212/112 set up was how WELL I could hear myself. ABSOLUTE clarity like never before. I STILL like my Berg NV215 as my FAVE cab- but the AE 212 is a damn fine lite-weight alternative & I've never found it to be lacking.

Sorry guys...Just finally getting caught up here. So, here are my thoughts on the AE112/AE212 stack. Like others have already said, it is a VERY rare occasion where you would actually need it. I originally tried it out just because I happened to be talking to Jim B and he mentioned it worked well because he knew I had both. That said, I have only done it once at a gig. That was an outdoor gig where I thought the 212 alone may not be able to quite give me the volume I needed. I had played that same venue a couple of years ago with an Epi UL310 and I was really pushing the limits of that cab. The next week I actually bought an AE410. ;) That said, the "AE312" stack is VERY loud. As you would expect, the AE112 just fills in the sound of the 212. As expected, it does not have the low end extension that the 212 has. So, it is more filling in some of the low mid and high end of the 212. In an outdoor gig, it was really hard to tell what was really going on tonally. I just really needed extra volume. In my experimenting at home, the "AE312" still has the overall character of the 212 with a bit more in the highs. It kinda takes on the character of the AE410 but more low end and volume and slightly less punch. I no longer have the Epi head that I had used before. So, I cannot even do the "AE312" right now. At least not with just one head anyway. Since none of my current amps are 2.67 ohm capable. I would have to use 2 heads slaved together to do it. Indoors, even in a large room. I really do not see the need for the "AE312". The AE212 really does everything I need it to do in 99.9% of the situations I am in.
