Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

Got my footswitch today as well. Not sure I needed it, but I am a Berg fan and have been for a long time, so why not? A few observations.

1) Surprised how beige it looks. I was expecting a more purer white similar to how it looks on the website. Kind of a retro 80's/90's vibe. Not my thing personally, but it's no big deal. It's what it does that counts...
2) Just an observation here. I noticed that with the pedal on, my wireless unit freaks out for a couple seconds when I turn it on and it's looking for a signal from my transmitter, but it settles pretty quickly with no issues so far.
3) Ok, this one kind of puts me off, honestly. When switching between channels while holding a sustained note I can hear a very audible dip in volume while switching. It's very noticeable. Not sure that's gonna work for me. :/ I even turned off all the wifi devices in my house to help ensure it wasn't interference. No difference. Anybody else experience this?
4) On the positive side, it's very convenient to have to switch between fingerstyle, slap, and a gritty distortion channel. It does this well and in a convenient, easy to setup, easy to use package. On the other hand, if you can afford the money and pedalboard space for separate and interchangeable EQ, signal boost, O/D, distortion pedals, etc. then the need for this seems much less dire.

In summation, I'm on the fence on whether it's going to have a place on my pedalboard just yet. I'll give it a couple rehearsals and maybe a gig or two before I decide. As small and thin and light as it is, I may keep it around for those gigs where I don't want to bring the 'board.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the pedal. As I believe I mentioned in an early post, we did program a ducker circuit into the firmware when switching out mem locations. I may have over compensated a bit. Given all the parameters we are saving and recalling, and then writing to the DSP on the fly, I thought it best to do it this way to avoid any possible noticing of all the switching of these parameters (i.e. 4 tone control and bright switch parameters including center frequencies, gains and q's, VRC state and levels, Effx State, type, and levels, and EFx Loop Engage State). I will revisit this, as it can be easily fine tuned. Your feedback is appreciated and helpful.

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing this, but I just have to comment.

I'm performing in a great production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and I'm attempting my best to copy the licks, feel, and sound of the late Alan Spenner, the brilliant player who among other things played on the original brown album of Superstar (the one with Ian Gillan singing).

I'm pretty sure Alan wasn't using Class D back in the late 60s, but to me it's shocking how close I can get there with my all-Bergantino equipment. Jim, you have truly made gear that fits so many settings. Wonderful flexibility--thank you again.

I cant get mine to work. Installed the 4.1 no problem. Dongle is tricky to get in the usb port. Amp sees it because the screen says "looking for pedal". I think i pressed too many buttons on the ped and lost something. Has 6 modes but i have no idea where i'm supposed to be. Sent a email cry for help to Berg today. Im sure we will figure it out.

Just wanted to let B|AMP owners know there should be a new firmware update available soon addressing the questions a few of you have shared.

First, the VRC compressor has been modified such that the input gain is less sensitive to allow entering the compressor to be more gradual. The attack time has also been modified to better accommodate the low E.

Second, the ducker circuit utilized while switching between Mem locations has been eliminated allowing for a much quicker transition between memory scenes without any noticeable reduction in volume. @Scott McArron

Finally, a new Fan menu option has been added to allow the user to choose between "Normal" fan operation and "Quiet" fan operation. The Quiet option will allow the amp to run a little warmer, reducing the possibility of the fan engaging during quieter, low volume operation such as studio, home or low volume gigs. @Stu_Bass

It will be version 4.21 and is just undergoing some final testing before release.

I'm not being facetious here, so my amp is what, 10-15% better (to the extent you can quantify it) than it was when I bought it? Are there a lot of other items that just continue to improve after purchase? Maybe fine wine, I guess.

Gotta confess something that happened yesterday. Played Friday night, double on Saturday, got to my worship band call on Sunday morning and boy was I dragging butt. Plugged in, warmed up, went out to play. Played the first song, and man, things just sounded different. Thinner, not as full, not quite getting it.

Looked at my settings on the bass, and nothing seemed weird. Then it hit me--I hadn't changed the profile setting from what I was using at the shows (HDN 210) to what I use at church (Sadowsky 410, for which I use the HS 410 setting at Jim's suggestion). Fixed it, and away I went.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that the profile settings make no difference! Especially when you're used to them, it makes all the difference in the world.

Anyway, my point here is Jim, I want you to make an LED setting that when the B senses the wrong profile for the attached speaker, a scroll goes across the front saying, "CHANGE THE SETTING, YOU DUMMY."

Now, if you could do that, you'd be the man!

Can someone send me an Amazon-or-other link for a 2gb USB thumbdrive that definitely fits the B|Amp? The one i just bought will not fully insert in the amp port because of the plastic case that contains the drive. I don't want to keep buying until i find one that fits properly. Needs to be compatible with Apple (Macbook Air).
