Bergantino HS410

JC,
I was on your site today looking around and saw you had the new Bergs listed. I'm considering the new HS210 to replace my Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 210. The reason: So it matches my Bergantino HT322!
What would you think of that?
The Mesa is 600 watts @ 8 ohms, but only has 1/4" connectors in the back. My HT322 is being powered by a Crest CA9 + Ampeg SVP-CL preamp. Sounds amazing. The HT322 is so good, I haven't had to stack the Boogie on it for any gigs yet.

The rack combination is obviously quite heavy though. Is the new HS210 still kind of thin to stack a heavy SKB rack on top of it, or is that not really an issue?
With my setup, would you clearly choose the HS210 over the Boogie 210?
Thank you.

Hey SR5X5,

I see that you are in NJ. You should come in and check out the HS210. I think it would be a great addition to your rig for a couple of reasons. First it would add a slightly different flavor to your 322 which would be a great complement. Secondly though it would give you some nice modularity. If you wanted to take just the 210 to a smaller/medium gig you could.

Let me know if I can help. Feel free to bring your rig in if you want to hear it with any of the HS cabs.

Joel

I recently had a chance to try both the HS410 and HS210 down at Bass Emporium. Now, going into this, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, and I am a very big fan of the SA410 (which shares the external dimensions and tweeter with the HS410; the drivers, crossover, and tuning are different, though). But I have to say, both cabs (and especially the HS410, which I spent more time with) most definitely exceeded my already high expectations. I reserve final judgment until I've had one in my stable for a while (not yet, but it'll happen!) and done some gig testing, but I strongly suspect that I have a new favorite 4x10. :D

Seriously, folks, this cab sounds great. And it gets very loud - more so than any other 4x10 at Bass Emporium, for sure. And because it is so efficient, you can drive it very well with more 'moderate' powered heads. If you are in the market for a 4x10, you should definitely give the HS410 a try (if possible).

Tom.

D&MN!!!

...more cab GAS...

Well, I just got done comparing the SA410 with a pair of HS210 cabinets. In short, the HS210 cabs sounded just as good but louder. We did a quick check of an Epi 410UL, and the HS stack seemed to be every bit as loud as the Epi, but because of the different tonal qualities it's hard to say for sure.

I'm probably going to place my order with Jive Sound tomorrow... :bassist:

Hmmm, now you'vre got me thinking about a 2x HS210 stack... because i need a smaller cab anyway, but i'm not sure a HT112 will cut it on its own, even for my smaller gigs. but the 410 would be easy to wheel... thinking, thinking

Believe me, it's a tough call between a single HS410, easily wheelable on nice 3" casters, versus a pair of HS210. The HS410 is also significantly less expensive.

Even so, I like the modularity of the 2x2x10 stack. Well, there's also the fact that I'm keeping my Sadowsky SA410, so I still have the option of the easily wheelable 4x10. And I could then put an HS210 over the SA410 if I really needed to knock down some walls. :ninja:

Congrats KenFuzz
I assume you'll be shipping them to NWI for a break in approval period. I'll be gentle. :smug:

If you hurry, you can bribe Mr. Bergantino to "accidentally" route them through your neighborhood! But then it'll be your obligation to post the gig report on these cabs for Ken Jung. And don't be tardy, you know how he gets! (J/K, KJ!)

Though I have not seen anything on the Bergantino website (please update your website Mr. Bergantino), I have heard (in a round about sort of way) that he is, or will be, producing an EX115. Does anyone have info on this? I would think an EX115 would be awsome as a match to my HS210.

The EX115, from what I understand, is meant as an extension cab for the IP153. I don't believe these are in full production mode yet. Not sure if the SPL and tuning of the EX115 would make it a good match for the HS210 or not.

How would the volume of the HS410 compare to the HT+EX stack?

From what I've heard, the HS410 is SERIOUSLY loud. Like, a ground breaking 4x10 (not just in a volume sense) I do own a HT/EX112 stack and these are the loudest 112'/s cabs I have heard with out breaking up at high volumes. They simply keep everything even without breaking up. Amazing. While the 112's add up to a surface area of 24", the 410 is 40". Physics says that the Berg 410 would be louder than the 112's as they're obviously pushing almost double the air, and I am sure that this would be the case. Having said that, the 112's have been known to be 'louder' than other brands of 410's. I'd love to hear the HS410 to see how loud that can get! Hope this helps.

Oh man, I'd love to try one...

On a minor note, the area of a circle is computed (pi * r ^2)

So the surface area of a 4x10 = 4 * 5^2 *3.14 = 314 sq. in

And and 2x12s = 2 * 6^2 * 3.14 = 226 sq. in

In this case, your surface area estimates are roughly proportional to the actuals. But if you're talking 15's, it becomes more important to use the right method, e.g.

1x15 = 7.5^2 * 3.14 = 176 sq. in.

whereas a 2x10 is only 157 sq. in

But IME, surface area is only one small factor. The Ampeg 8x10 has a nice hefty presence, but almost no cut at all.

Sounds like that's NOT the case with the HS410 though... :hyper:

86 lbs. though ... :hmm:
