Bergantino HS410

I'm digging this one up.....

I don't own an HS410 but I do have a Sadowsky SA410 and by most accounts these are very very close in terms of tone.

So over the past year or more that I've had the SA410 I have become very fond of it and it is my preferred cabinet as a result I am becoming less fond of the tone of my EA NL210 and Wizzy 10.

So my question is this I'd like a small version of my SA410 preferablly a 2x10 and/or 1x12, of course neo is the direction I'd like to move in as well. Many of the gigs I play do not require a 4x10 cabinet.

Thanks Pete

I'd check out the HS210, AE210, and AE112.

While not neo, two of the HS210's would give you similar tone, more low end, and modularity. They are not lightweight, but the thin profile (I think around 12 inches) makes them pretty easy to schlep.

The low end is extended a touch from the SA models, but the general tone profile is very similar.

If you want a bit more aggressive upper mids, but still keep that tight, punchy tone profile, two of the new Schroeder 115L+ cabs (in 8 ohm version) would kill if weight was key (they are only 30 pounds each).

Thanks guys you always come through with some good ideas.

I think I am going to stay away from the HS210 unless it is a dead on match as far as tone and nothing else comes close.

In addition if one of these works out I wouldn't mind eliminating the SA410 all together and having a small modular stack. But for right now those are nice choices 115L+, AE210 & AE112. If I can get down to the weight of my EANL210 I'd be a really happy camper.

With the closing of The Groove Shoppe playing these becomes a big challenge. Especially interesting is 2 115L+ makes me think of my Bag End stack days minus the weight...

Ken you think 2 115L+s are closer then the Berg Neos you didn't mention either of them or your Tech 212....

I almost mentioned the S212. It has that similar upper mid aggressiveness as the 115L+ and the AE cabs, but more absolute low end. Since the SA410 is quite attenuated down low, I didn't think you were looking for that big, deep 12" speaker tone. It's a killer cab though, and comes in 4ohm version.

I love my AE410, but the 4ohm 115L+ as a stand alone is just stunning, and has a lot of the AE tone profile in a smaller, louder, lighter box. I have not heard two 8ohms stacked, but I would guess they would be amazing. Again, the 115L+ is more tight than big, and more punchy than fat, but it's even all through the mids.. no hump, no bumps, no valleys. It's an extraordinary cab IMO and IME.

I am going to check to see if any of the DB guys have thoughts as ultimately I'd like the cab to be able to "go both ways" so to speak. Honestly I am really starting to get tired of the mid focused Wizzy and NL210 to a lesser degree.

I really don't dig the Wizzy's at all for my tone. I actually like the NL210, but mine blew up, and too many other's have also. I do agree though, that the NL210 has LOT's of mids going on. I kind of dig that myself. If it wasn't for the design and reliability issues of that particular cab, I'd probably still own one.

Volume-wise, the little 115L+ will more than keep up with the NL210 (much less the Wizzy!).

You might want to PM Wilbyman. He has the new 112L+ (similar to the 115L+) and is digging it with his DB at the moment.

I'll do that. It's funny I got my NL210 around the time you sold yours and a number of people had issues. I probably done a minimum of 100 gigs with it no problem.

It sounds like most of the cabs you guys mentioned have a mid bump outside of the HS210. Is there any correlation between the Neos and the mid bump.

Any idea where the holy grail of DB cabs falls into the mix I've never had the chance to play a VL208 or weigh it...

Maybe I missed the boat and should have picked up an HT/EX 12 while they were out.

I am going to find out more about the 12L+, although Jorg is kind of getting dogged over on the DB side right now.

Well, the VL-208 really is one of the best cabs out there for double bass. EA is coming out with a new NM-208, and while it is not exactly a VL-208, it is a great cab in its own right. It shares the same enclosure as the M-line Wizzy. I'll have a Quick Look at the NM-208 in issue #2.

You might also want to try the Phil Jones Neo-Power line. The 8B is probably my personal fave, and it sounds great on both electric and upright bass.

The Glockenklang Space Deluxe is another cab which I have found to perform very well in a doubling role.

And while I like the HT112 pretty well on double bass, the IP112 really takes it to the next level. Throw a Summit TD-100 in front of it, and it's a DB amplification dream! Of course, no mic/pickup blending with that config...

Tom.

All great ideas, of course I'd have to throw a dart at the wall and order one and keep moving down the list until I find the keeper. Everyone keeps suggesting the IP as I already have a TD 100, 2BA221 & a Millennia TD1.

If one store carried all this stuff I'd have no problem hoping a flight over there unfortunately it's all mail order these days.

Driving through Ohio anytime soon? :D

NO:crying:

If there is another big Ohio Blechfest I will surely do my best to fly in though...

It's hard to believe that I live a half hour from NYC (the biggest city in the world) and there is only one decent bass shop around, Rudy's. It's smack dab in the middle of midtown so you can't even drag your stuff in to test something out.

Ahhh i played the HS410 today at the Bergatino distributor.

Oh myyy godddd.

that was amazing. My pedal setup is mostly an octaver (mutron octave divider) and my big muff russian reissue.

At first i played through the NV610, which sounded great clean bass alone... but when do i play clean. So I tried it with my octaver and such *oh my head is a mesa m6*, well the sound was fat but not what im after. and the nv610 sounded like crap with the distortion.

So i asked george to plug me into the HS410 which pretty nice with the clean bass. I kicked the switch on the distortion, and just WOW

My jeans were shaking from the intense vibrations in the floor, i loved it. Anyone have one of these? what do you thinkk?

I live 20 minutes away from Bass Central...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Sorry, that was uncalled for. But everyone from NY comments on how Disney corporate Orlando is, so we have to have a leg up on you guys for something ;)

Yeah I run my V4 through an HS410, fairly loud for some overdrive, with a distortion pedal in the chain for some crazy sounds and it smokes. It's the best cab I've ever played through period. I liked my old Eden 410XLT but this is lighter, smaller, and has every bit as much volume... I think it's got better definition too... but the Eden had a lot of miles on it.

Never thought I'd drop that much dime on a 410 until I played through one! :D

Weird...my dealer keeps telling me the 6x10 is the ultimate cab for tube grind...hes nearly talked me into one. Think I might have to test now!

I own a pair of HS210 cabs and also an NV610. Both are excellent. One reason I use the NV610 as my #1 gig cab is that it does go better with tube grind IMO. One reason for that is the lack of tweeter: tweeters don't go well with overdrive because of the infamous "buzzy bees" effect that gets worse as the amount of dist/OD goes up.

All that said: my tone tends to be bright and sizzly. If you're careful with the amount of treble you put into your tube grind, then the HS cabs will indeed sound great. To my ears they aren't as mid-scooped as many modern cabs, so I can tailor my mids however I like to get my desired flavor of punch, purr, growl, snarl, or whatever! :)
