Same here Bill. All the adjectives I like in tone were/are used with the TC "Warm, Fat, Round" etc.

I thought the Genz would be "super" aggressive in comparison, but it's not.

Just goes to show ya, other folks terms to describe tone more than likely won't match yours.

But the Berg cabs seem to get a consistant WOW irreguardless of the users power setup.

Oh yes, total agreement! Espcially on the Bergs, hell, last few days, I've been thinking about how one would work in my rig, heck, for a while(as I do every now and then) I was thinking of replacing the whole rig.

Keep in mind guys that you're hearing clips recorded with the bass & amps set flat. It's not always where you start off but where you finish.
I can tell you first hand that the TC amp has tones of EQ possibilites. IMO it's not a plug and play amp but it can be tweaked to provide lots of great tones.
IMO the Berg really tames the GB head.

Thats true too, Joe, very true, which is why I understand Greg saying that he'd prefer to record each head set to its best.

I know I'd probably run the bass lower on the TC, and the high mids up a bit.

In fact, its the tweakablity that really interests me about the TC.

I'd love to have instantly swappable presets for my Roscoe Beck, my Roscoes, my electric upright, and a dirty sound. Well, I could skip the dirty one, as I'd be using pedals anyway.

If it sounds real good at low volumes(my current stuff needs to be loud to get the goods:hmm:), it would probably be perfect for me, with a small Berg cab(the currently very popular around here 112, for example), I don't gig, so all I need is a good practice/recording rig.

Oh I know Joe, I know the TC has a wider array of possibilities. My opinion is strictly based upon Greg's flat sound clips.

I knew I liked Roscoe from the various clips you guys posted BUT hearing one in person amped what I liked 1000%.

I'd also conclude (at least common sense says) hearing either head in person might change my preference.

I was surprised at the differences having read common opinions on TB about both heads.

To be honest neither sounds "bad" but definately different from what I thought they would from reading on TB. I'm sure my perception of the sound/tone may change once hearing the two live.

My comments/opinion and subsequent "shock" have me tending to believe several TB'ers offer opinions on things they have 0 experience with.



In other words I could go now and tell someone that the EBS 210 that Greg has for sale sounds either terrific or terrible but I honestly haven't got a clue how it sounds, having never heard one.

Moral: Take things you read on TB with a grain of salt. (especially if I wrote it) :hiding: :smug:

The GB seems to have a bit more clarity and a nice growl to it that I like, seems to cut through the mix REAL good. The TC sounds very warm, perhaps a bit more fuller sounding, less punch/attack? Sounds very good though.

I am in the market for a new head/cab and those two heads have been on my radar and this definitely makes it hard to make a decision.

I just posted in your thead that I'm looking at the
same 2 heads. When Greg has both in stock I'm heading
to B'burg to check them out. I'm leaning toward the
RH450 because I have used Ampeg and Aguilar for the
last 20 years and the RH450 might get a little closer to
the tone I'm used to.

Hey, Dan,

My sitch is usually the reverse (I usually have Genz out my ears and am waiting on TC), but right now I have the TC but not the Genz 9.0. The Shuttle MAX 12.0 is a very fair approximation of the Shuttle 9.0, and I do have that in stock. I'm just saying, ya might want to strike while the iron is hot on the TC side of things. I only have one RH-450, so as soon as it sells I'm back to waiting on the rest of the ones I have on backorder... and that wait can be painful for whatever reason.

The weather is fine down here in the 'burg, come on down tomorrow if you're free!

Otherwise, it'll probably be Tuesday or Wed before I have the Shuttle 9.0.

Hey Greg, I still need to get the funds together.
The Aguilar AG500 is still working for me but it let me down on
a couple of high volume outside gigs (with PA support).:rollno:

We are renovating the old house and looking to buy before
the interest rates get to high...so money is tight.

I would like to check out both the RH450 and the 9.0
when you have them in stock. Still leaning toward the
RH450 though...just from what I have read.
Not sure about this week. I'll give you a call after I talk to
the CFO (wife).:D

I really don't think the TC amp will help on this issue as I see on your equipment list you're using 2 1x12 cabs? For outdoor gigs it's not the Aguilar that's letting you down, it your cab size. Even an SVT2 would seem be a slouch with that set up for louder gigs.

Not meaning disrespect as those are great cabs! :) But it's kinda defying the laws of physics unless you are playing with a VERY quiet guitarist and drummer.

Yeah, I was using 2 Epifani cabs. I really wasn't pushing
them that hard. I had the gain set at 11 and the master
at 2. It was a loud gig but I was using the amp for stage
volume. I have used the same (or close to it) settings
before w/o a problem. The last 2 times I played outside
we used the same company to run sound and both times
the AG500 kept going into protection mode. I made it through
the gig but it was really distorted. One thing that was different this time is that the sound
company used a circuit breaker enclosure using a cable that was running about 75' to a building for power.
Maybe that had somethind to do with it
or user error on my part...or both. :hmm:
