The NV610 sounds so good b/c it's a sealed box, no tweeter!!

My lightweight alternative is two Bag End S-15D's.

I just can see the look on people's faces when I show up for a jazz gig with an NV610 and my SVT-II (non-pro).

^this is the exact rig I played today while we auditoned a drummer! I like a clear, quick amp for a lot of stuff for sure--but man, something about this rig just hits exactly the right spot

That was my original intent but the good deal came up on the used TC RS112 and I had to give it a try.

To make matters worse, a local player is willing to trade me his Thunderfunk 550B and Berg HT112 for my TC RH450 & RS112 cabinet. And of course I have a soft spot for Tfunk & Berg's!

And you guys are not helping me any posting these killer sound clips!

Man! You really provide some awesome services to all of us out here in bass I-net land. I printed out your break down of the sound clip and listened several times. IMO it’s very telling for both the amp heads and the various Berg cabinet configurations. I’ve only played through the GB heads a couple of times but it sounds exactly the way I would have expected with Bergs (compared to the TC head). To my ears the GB head has much more attack and emphasis in the upper mid’s while the TC head seems much warmer. I’m sure that both heads could be EQ’d to so sound more similar but the unique voicing of each heads is very apparent based on the sound clips. I was most surprised by the change in the tone when you switched from the Berg HT112 ER to the NV610 with your head. I really like the tone of the NV610. It sounds so warm and smooth, but when your dig in it responds very nicely. Of course I’m not about to carry that thing around but I do see your dilemma!

Not at all. Greg mentioned that these cabs like a little bit of power thrown at them - very similar to Epifani IME, so I don't have any concerns. Honestly, I still haven't experienced both of these cabs together - that'll happen at a pretty big gig later this month. In any case, I certainly don't peg the amp, and I've never had a concern with having an amp's peak rating higher than that of the cab(s) it's driving.

You seem to be cutting through the mix fantastically It's surprising to me the tone and clarity you're getting from the Berg. I'd assume if you gave a 112 lots of power that It'd "give" in submission, but the Berg keeps on truckin'.

Single cab, Greg. And the band was definitely giving off some decibels. I'm still just amazed at this thing. I always thought the Aggie GS112 could get pretty darn loud, but the Berg? Oh my. Amp was completely flat, with the pre-gain boosted to 2 o'clock. On the bass, I had my 'normal' EQ - lows boosted to 6/10, mids & highs flat, blend centered.

Great Sound!

Joe, I wouldn't equate it to a "tie" but rather a "one-two punch" Neither of these guys is making me "not" like a Berg.

It's a conspiracy (Hides in corner with Roscoe and tinfoil hat yet again)

Nice clips! I prefer the bass only tracks, since you can really hear what is going on.

You can hear the more grindy upper mids of the Shuttle versus the low mid fullness and growl of the RH450 nicely in your clips. That RH450 is a hammer, given the lower wattage spec. Goes to show that marketing 'wattage specs' are just that in many cases.

If you end up getting some AE cabs in your store, you will hear that the more upper mid grind and brightness of the AE cabs REALLY makes the RH450 sing (sounding a bit more like the Shuttle 9 through the HT112ER on your clip, but with more low mid punch and authority)!

Nice... man, those Roscoe's really do have a 'built in tone' don't they. They all sound quite similar to me, which is a good thing... clear, signature tone... warm, round, fat, with that little bit of 'Bartolini ping' on the top end. Not my thing personally, but it sounds good, especially with the smooth sounding HT cab!

^ Yeah, I think both types of clips (solo bass and group setting) are really useful. A bass or rig can sound great all by itself but be a complete dud in a band situation. The solo clips let you hear the more subtle differences, and the group clips let you hear how it sits & cuts...

Dang, I goofed on the mic setup on the 610. One of the mics is distorting slightly, and I can't clean it up after the fact. Arrrghhh!! That clip is as good as it'll get until I get a chance to re-record that take...

Greg, When you get round to it, I'd like to hear the RH450 and the Genz 9.0 through the 610 too. I'm curious as you said before how the lightweights will play with the big cabs.

All I can say is wow! Great clips Greg, your playing is excellent. Sounds like a fair amount of chicken grease either on your hands or the fretboard.

My preference is slightly in favor of the Genz Benz, but every clip certainly had something to love. My HT112ER is sitting here staring me in the face and all I can do is wait until tonight to plug'er in to the TD660 at a dinner club gig.

Now that I've heard the Shuttle into the ER, I'll be looking at just it or the EA Doubler for my lightweight EB/DB head to pair with the ER.

...back OnT, i can't wait to listen to these clips now--if that 112 is really what i'm reading it to be, i might just have to buy one for my new 'small' rig...i just sold my shuttle combo because now that i have the NV610, i can keep a big cab at home and a big cab at rehearsal space--but it would be nice to have a small cab for certain things as well, not to mention a wider sounding cab with tweeter as a different flavor


Greg--i'll echo LilRay in saying that when you have time, i'd be REALLY interested in hearing a comparison of the 9.0 vs the RH450 thru the NV cabs...i really dug the 6.0 with my 610, but man alive, this SVT i'm using again just hits so hard and smothers the room with low-midrange--i'm interested in how much harder the 9.0 hits with the big cab and whether the RH450 compares favorably stacked against it thru the same cab
