Bergantino's Vertical 410!!!!!

The only one of those specs that looks off-putting to me is the 79 lbs. Well, depending on whether that 48 Hz is the - 3 dB point or (more likely) the -10 dB point.

For portability reasons I'd rather have a pair of 2x10s. Two boxes, two trips.
Probably -3 dB.

Still for a big cab I would prefer something deeper, close to 35 to 40 Hz.

Also something more efficient, at least 102, and more like 103 dB @1W/1m

The photo makes it look rather precarious  . But just an optical illusion.
Oh nope, very sturdy actually! The NXT is super light, but pretty stout with a decent footprint as far as stability goes. And the Verellen is so heavy it holds everything down in place lol.

I used to use two of those little Ampeg SVT210AV cabs in a vertical stack with my Aggie TH500... that was a little nerve wracking on a bouncy stage and I wouldn't have ever dreamed about putting anything heavier than a 5lbs micro head on top of that. I loved the schelp though, and also having the speakers up at chest height was super nice.

IME when it's not specifically indicated as -3dB, it's usually -10dB, which is often called "usable response."

Let's keep in mind this is a sealed cab that is essentially intended to give you the performance of the NV610T in a smaller package. From the product page:
  • ...it preserves the NV610T’s tonal character in a much more compact, stage friendly format.

Also something more efficient, at least 102, and more like 103 dB @1W/1m
The NV610T sensitivity is 103dB 2.83V/1m and it is rated for 800W. The NV410T sensitivity is 101.5dB 2.83V/1m with a 1000W power rating. The sensitivity of the individual drivers for both cabs is about 92d 1W/1m. The drivers in the 610 handle 133W each. The drivers in the 410 handle 250W each. Keeping almost the same sensitivity and almost doubling the power handling of the drivers seems pretty impressive to me.

Calculated SPL for NV610T at 800W = 129dB. Calculated SPL for NV410T at 1000W = 128.5dB

I’ve had a proto cab for a few months…yes, 79 lbs…but it’s actually quite nimble, when wheeling it around. Easily loads/unloads (by myself) from my Honda HRV. Fits horizontal in the hatchback area with all seats still up/functional, or lays across the back seat, with room to spare.

Imo/e, more stable than 2x210 Berg’s vertically stacked.

Tone—has the NV610 vibe (which I also own)…just less “presence/hugeness” (given two less ceramic woofers—similar effect going from 810>610)…and 410 has a touch more clarity top to bottom. Sounds amazing without the tweeter in use, too!

I agree, however the sensitivity spec is potentially a bit misleading: 101.5dB 2.83V/1m at 4 ohms is equivalent to 98.5dB 1W/1m.
True enough - but still a respectable performer: 98.5dB efficiency, used with its max RMS input (1000 watts) = 128.5dB

That's literally as loud as a jackhammer, and unless you're a REALLY bad bassist, the cabinet should be much nicer to listen to than the aforementioned jackhammer.

How much volume do you folks even need anyway?! :roflmao:

With the vertical form factor and the speakers being up closer to your chest (and better dispersion and less comb filtering), you ought to be able to play with lower stage volume than a typical 410 cab blasting at your knees and still be able to hear yourself better on stage.

TBH I typically have more trouble keeping my NXT212 volume low enough on most stages. It is rated at a higher sensitivity, but so what? Is anyone really pushing these cabs to their limit and still not feeling loud enough?

In a sealed cabinet, I would expect this to be a -10dB spec unless stated otherwise. It's very hard to get good LF extension in a smallish, sealed cabinet at highish sensitivity IME.

Hearing—finding this cab really excels. I can hear the 410 extremely well, even standing up next to it.

I think to make it a fair comparison it's necessary to consider long term SPL vs peak SPL. I assume the 130dB for the jack hammer is long term. The 128.5dB for the bass cab is not.

AFAIK live bass has something like a 12dB crest factor, so long term SPL with a 1000W amp occasionally tickling the limiter would probably be more like 119.5dB. That's still pretty loud, but not jack hammer loud ;).

I would prefer a narrower, deeper cab instead of the staggered style.
Perhaps 14 x 14 x whatever height is needed to accommodate the ports.
I’d also refer Neos to reduce weight.

Looks like the armchair engineers and peanut gallery came out in full force, and in typical TB fashion!;-) It always amazes me how people can form opinions without hearing a single note. And as far as low end response, it may not seem low enough, but being sealed it rolls off at half the rate as a ported cab. And I’ve never heard once, a complaint about its big brother, the NV610, not having enough low end.

As well as how difficult it is to achieve "big" LF extension is a box of this size.

Of course LFE numbers are not the only defining factor of the perception of low end, the rolloff slope is as you point out different from a ported cabinet, and in reality extreme LFE may not be all that desired under many (or most) applications. I think today's (more sophisticated) player's adoption of the HPF highlights this now more than ever.

I think many believe because it’s a “bass” guitar you must need a 21” subwoofer to faithfully reproduce it. I also find it laughable how often players compare designs on specs alone. This is getting old. The fact is if you’ve had even a moderate amount of exposure to various designs you know specs don’t tell the whole story. In fact, usually not even close. Bottom line, I think I’m getting old!;-)

We’re all getting old, Jim. I agree with you, specs only tell part of the story. There’s no way to give an accurate account of a cabinet’s performance without actually hearing it in person. I know that’s difficult to do with your cabs and amps but based on the Bergantino amps I’ve owned and their performance, I have no doubts that this cab will deliver much more that what the specs indicate.
