Best color ever?

I put my answer in a historical/cultural/personal context: best color for a P Bass, Butterscotch Blonde/maple board, for a J Bass, 3-color Fender sunburst/rosewood board, more modern basses as you wish. I stay away from flashy "kustom kar" colors -- currently building a P/J hybrid with a banana-cream-pie body and maple board. I know some will question whether I am a bass player at all (should be tickling the keys in a piano bar, right?) I am the sort who actually enjoys standing on the side of the stage and allowing the singer and lead guitarist have the spotlight. Show up on time, help move equipment, enjoy playing the show, and collect my pay. My calendar is pretty full out to April.

Candy-apple red.
It looks great on almost any bass, & it absolutely refuses to blend into the background.
Be seen and be heard!

Candy Tangerine is sweet too:

The color that intrigued me the most was a only one time use (as far as I know) color by Ibanez. It looks good in any lighting, It's very retro, It's unique, people always ask about it as soon as they see it in person, and I have one. The color is called Martini Olive Green and it's on my SRX 400. It's sort of a Granny Smith Candy Apple color with some great metal flake glitter ala 70s California custom car style paint. The only place the color looks poor (IMHO) is in pictures. Pictures do not do it any justice for some reason. I took it out in the sun on a bright day and it just oozed cool. Under a black light and strobe..... Lets just say WOW!!! About the bass..... It sounds and feels to me like a lower end MM Bass but has a thin neck that fits my hands like a glove. Between that and the stock scratch guard looks almost 3D and like it could/should have come off of a 60s Danelectro.

P.S. Out of my 5 member bass collection, This is my favorite.

P.S.S. These pics were d/l from the web for ease but match mine.

The Gunmetal Blue on the MIJ Aerodyne is my favorite color. A thing of true beauty. YMMV :

If I ever buy another Aerodyne to keep, as opposed to harvesting it's neck for another parts-bass projekt, that is the color I want! drool It's like a midway point between three of my favorite finishes…

Red!

However I have a classic sunburst rosewood tort j bass. Which is great. A bass should be dark.
Transparent colors where you see the wood grain are great.
I used to have a transparent red Aria.
The candy apple Fender is great too but has to have a rosewood fingerboard and a black pickguard.

Red? Check!
Transparent? Check!
Dark? Kinda-sorta, I guess…

I'm tempted to get one of these myself, but I already bought and equipped one of their Trans-Blue Jazzes. But, if I did, I'd probably go with a maple, bound & blocked Squier VM '70s neck. And in case you're interested…

Black and Fireglo are the best color ever. Unless I buy a white T-Bird I've been looking at. Then White, Black and Fireglo are the best color ever. Unless I buy the white T-Bird and a sunburst P Bass. Then White, Black, Fireglo and Sunburst are the best color ever. Unless I also pick up the natural finish Vianetti Charader that doesn't exist...

Love your preference for Jazz Basses; never played a Ric before. Isn't the Ric neck wider than a Jazz, more like a P Bass? How would you compare the sound?

I don't notice a lot of difference on that neck, although it is slightly wider. It's slightly shorter scale, though, and I play a littler "hotter" on the Ric than the Jazz. Soundwise, the Ric wins, but not by much. Both can get a bit clanky if you want; and round and P-like if you want.

The Ric neck seems real different from a jazz. (I don't have a Ric). It's wide at the nut but more parallel sided, so narrow at the base. Thick feeling, but medium scale, so less chunky than a p bass.
Really? Rics are medium (32") scale? They're so damned expensive and kinda odd-looking, I never tried one. Have to try one out at Dave's Guitar Shop next time I'm there.
