Best Female Singing Voice

On the basis of best voices.
Maria Carey. Might have poor song choices but undeniable range and tone.
Chaka Khan. She wrote the book for todays wannabees and the likes of Whitney Houston.
Celine Deon. total quality.

Can't miss our 'Retha. undefinable.

Then there is the more pure but still emotive like Sarah McLachlan.
Wild card, Shelby Lynne

Ella Fitzgerald

Ella Fitzgerald, without a second's hesitation. She's such the obvious choice for me, that she ought to be pulled from the running just to get an answer that might actually say something.

She sings for only about 1/3 of this song, but that's all she needed to forever skew my perception of all other singers, when I first heard this as a young musician...and she was 19 or 20 years old when she sang this. Jesus.

There are lots of great female singers out there, that I love, but none of them that I've ever heard have that certain something that Ella had.
