Best portable amp for commuting to school by train?

What would you guys said would be a decent amp for commuting to college by train? Most days the train isn't crowded and only really heading home Thursday I would say it's slightly crowded. For a little bit about myself, I'm not sure how many watts I'll need, I'll say it's safe to say roughly 40 watts or 100 since most of the school players are using acoustic instruments un-amp as some live there and with some brass and reed instruments. Is there anything smaller that can maybe handle those type of just hang out jams I plan to do? Some students also may bring a PA system, what's y'all thoughts on this? I was honestly thinking maybe even getting an ukulele bass with some tiny Blackstar amp, but not sure, thinking to get something a little bit more powerful

I would think Rumble 40 or Ampeg RB110 would cut it. Pretty affordable and both have line out if you do get that PA.

if you buy new from a store, you can have the exchange option if you do need to bump up to the 100w/12” version.

If you have the coin, I’d look at GK MB 112. Killer amp and would serve you for years.

Agreed, that would be simplest, if you've got a convenient place to store it at school.

The thing I use is in about the same size/weight ballpark as most of the suggestions above. I think I could get it on and off a semi-crowded train every day if I needed to. Add in the bass and other school stuff and... I think it wouldn't be pleasant, but it seems doable. I'd still rather keep an extra at school if it was possible.

Can the school purchase an amp? In my music school days never once had to lug an amp to school as most of the rehearsal rooms had amps.

Unless I'm in an orchestra gig or a string quartet, I always use an amp when I play upright.

I also say a Phil Jones Bass Double Four with laptop battery, about $550, but worth every penny. It's the size of a shoe box, and you can also get a nice carry bag. I've used it in a large multipurpose room with 30 ukulele players and the leader singing and playing on a Fishman amp.
