Big Cabs Club

Fun thread and I am definitely a fan of the big cabs and moving air. After some experimenting I figured out that a 610 was the perfect size for me so I found this Goliath Sr. and de-badged it, cleaned it up, and have since played a ton of gigs with it!

So sign me up in this here club because I'm never parting ways with this thing!

Does this qualify for a number? :D

Greenboy designed 1515/66. (Posted this in the Fearful thread as well.) Huge sound! As with the 15/6 the B string of my Lakland sounds incredibly powerful and focused and the mids are warm and clear. I am running about 1600 watts triamped using 2 poweramps and a rack mounted DSP.

Most striking is the weight of this cabinet. I don't have any other option to weigh something this big except to use the highly scientific bathroom scale method. I did it a couple times and came up with...

89 pounds!

Wow. I thought it weighed more than this but realise thats probably due to the size effecting this perception. ( Wrapping your arms around it and carrying it makes one perceive more weight.) However, it is less than 90lbs and I still can't get over it. My EBMM 2-12 weighs more than this!
The SPL to weight/size ratio for this cab is totally off the screen. I feel confident in saying that there is nothing commercially available that could possibly best it in this regard.

Unfortunately I havent been able to really fire this up as any volumes above 2 make the windows rattle and cause the entire room to vibrate. I am not playing in a band right now but it's obvious that this cab would thump extremely hard if I wanted it to and I can move it around with ease.

Much thanks and appreciation goes out to Greenboy for designing this for me.

Does a step ladder come with that to reach the amp?

It's about the same height and width as an 810, and probably shallower than most. And with big wattage can easily keep up with two 610 while going lower and higher and harder - and will give two 810 a run for the money while actually doing MORE below. It'll do two conventional 215 cabs in, leave 'em smoldering, if it's fed the wattage it can actually deal with.

89 pounds versus 120 or more x 2, and half the space. Think what two of them could hurt ; }

wowow :hyper:
how loud is this thing going to be? 160 db?

there's a 2x12/1x6/horn version that's much more compact, but still with tonnes of whomp.
See the Fearful threads for free plan info and details. Plans for that cab are there as well; alopng with many other variants including subs and top-boxes. Great stuff.

Wow lots of new members with Big Cabs! Remember we always like pictures, the more the better, to see the cabs from every angle, inside and out!

Scored the 2x15! $50 -AND it sounds good..

I was happy with the $250 I paid for my 1820, this is great.

I'm having some issues sending pics from my phone to my email, but I'll definitely put up pics of it all together when I can.

Also sucks because I also got a Peavey Musician 400 Series head that I'd love to snap some pictures of. It looks really good for it's age. I'll have to have it looked at to know if it's salvagable (and at what cost) or if it's a paperweight.

It powers on and definitely carries a signal, but it's fartsville at any volume. Like, probably damage your speakers bad, definitely not a "fuzzy" tone.. something's wrong.

Could be a simple internal part that could get it running the way it should, which I'm definitely hoping for.
