I have no doubt it is a violation of Forum Rules for me to describe the effect this image had.

:D

I realize this is on the small end for this club, but it's the biggest thing I've owned and a significant upgrade from the TKO65 combo that I had been using for way too long. I recently inherited this rig from my uncle. It's an 18 BW with a Century Series 200 head. I've only had 2 practices with it but I am loving the sound I'm getting from it. It's 90 lbs of deep thumping goodness with surprisingly good highs and mids.

Here it is next to a 215 (not mine) for size comparison

No way, the 18" driver holds special regard here! Especially a fairly rare cab like the 118 BW you have there! Very nice. Also I must say that my first real bass amp (I used an old stereo when I was in jr. high and my first couple years in high school) was a Peavey century 120 series head, and a 115 BW cab nearly identical to your cab there. I didn't need a lot of volume (though it had plenty) and that rig sounded very nice, and I got a lot of use out of the distortion knob on that head playing old cliff era metallica! But it also had the silky smooth buttery bass for some Toto as well...

Nice rig there JBuckley! #154 - JBuckley

I found what looks like an old Peavey 4x12 at a pawn shop Tuesday. Cab has the aluminum strips down the left and right sides of the front. I couldn't remove the grill to see, and the thing is in rough shape!! I COULD barely see two 12s in the upper half of the cab, thru the cloth. The jack was hanging out the back, and would need a homemade fix. I was impressed by the fact that it was a 2 ohm cab!

They had a guitar amp plugged into it, and I played a little Cliff Burton's Anesthesia w/ the distortion engaged LOL, at probably a RUDE volume. I think I could get it for little to nothing, but should I bother? Any input from you guys on the cabs value tone-wise and $$??

The cab was kinda slim front to back.... any chance it was a guitar cab?

Is it a typical square 4x12 or is a great big 4x12? If square, it's probably a guitar cabinet. If it's the big one, I think they assumed it could go both ways (so to speak)...kind of like the Ampeg V2 cabinet (another large ported 4x12 cabinet).

$$$ wise, cheap. Tone-wise...your ears will tell you.

A good fix for the jack is to simply buy a metal jack cup from Parts Express or similar, cut a appropriately sized hole in the back and put all the parts together (might as well install a new Switchcraft jack while you're at it).
