Here's my baby, I love the VBA400 and how it fits perfectly on top of the Ampeg, I've had it recovered in white now which looks beautiful!

I'm lovin' the whole line up! I hope you don't grab the outlet strip when getting up out of the bathtub!

Is it a typical square 4x12 or is a great big 4x12? If square, it's probably a guitar cabinet. If it's the big one, I think they assumed it could go both ways (so to speak)...kind of like the Ampeg V2 cabinet (another large ported 4x12 cabinet).
$$$ wise, cheap. Tone-wise...your ears will tell you.
A good fix for the jack is to simply buy a metal jack cup from Parts Express or similar, cut a appropriately sized hole in the back and put all the parts together (might as well install a new Switchcraft jack while you're at it).
It was a tall cab, rectangular, kinda like a 6x10 heightwise, but considerably wider than a cab housing 10s, probably 8-10" wider. It had no ports on the back of the cab, and it was maybe 15" deep front to back.
Yeah, I could easily fix it. Would wanna make sure all the 12s looked and worked first... so how do I get the front off?? Pry it w/ a screwdriver? Is it held on w/ velcro?

I don't want a number, but I'll play![]()
Nice try but I'll decide who gets numbers and who doesn't thank you very much!

Something like this? Not sure if this is a bass or guitar version:

Or this? I think this could be either as well:

This one is said to be for guitar:

This one is definitely for guitar, model "412S Guitar Enclosure":

I was summoned! I have one of these beasts and play through it all the time!
1st... it is a 4ohm cab, unless it has been rewired.
2ns they are LARGE. But they are square. It is much larger than a 412 guitar stack... MUCH larger. There should be a metal grille and no cloth. You should easily be able to see all 4 speakers.
They are fairly insensitive but once you push it.... holy moly, they REALLY open up. If you are going to juice it with anything less than 200W @ 4ohms... forget it. I run my Firebass 700 into it and it goes deeeeeeeeep.
With a Dynabass 5 or my TL5 the low B is pure bliss.
I wouldn't gig with it... practice only. It weighs ~170lbs. Too much to schlep around.
Is it worth it?! F-yes! This is the best cab I haver heard in awhile. Oddly enough though it is so deep that you want to put the tweeter attenuator at 8-10. It sounds odd, but you really need to jack it up to get definition on the top end.
Any other ???s... just let me know!
Ox.
The ports should be hiding behind the grille.
It should be held on with those plastic snaping things (how's that for an accurate description?) similar to what Ampeg uses. The Aluminum trim is attached to the grille frame so you might be able to grab on to that an pull.
A screwdriver sometimes helps too but the cabinet can get dented from prying.
I was thinking that Phil Upchurch used one of those but looking that the Peavey ad that I could find, the cabinet shown here might be a smaller one than the ad I was remembering.

None of those are like mine...
It looks like a 410 on steroids. My 212 has the old style cloth grill, but the 412 bass cab has a metal grill.
Ox.
wow i had no idea a thread like this existed.

was running this for a while, just for fun. ended up selling one of the 8x10s, to buy another 8x10. can't help myself.

Currently running three rigs.
1. 70's SVT with 70's Ampeg 8x10
2. 70's Traynor YBA-3 with Traynor Big Bertha 8x10
3. Fender Bassman 300 Pro with Ampeg 810E.
So Ox is yours more like this one? Not really 'old school Peavey' more or less 'middle school Peavey'?
