The new one sounds much better than we had anticipated. I was able to get the cross over pretty seamless into the Faital 3. I didn't expect it to sound that great with recorded music. I was wrong. Steve just sat here with his mouth open. I can tell the tonal balance with various music tracks. I'd be happy to use it for hifi or pa. I just told someone yesterday (before I'd heard it) that it might not be good as a PA cab. I take that back.

The sound is different from the other MAS cabs.(well a little different).The Flex cabs are very focused and punchy. The "entry 10" cab is more of a wider note. Not upper bass bloat, but the envelope is different. I'd say it feels more like a reflex cab (as opposed to a sealed box) but just more immediate in the note beginning and MUCH better at note decay. I'd say ---in quoting JGR and Tom B.--the Flex sounds more like a sealed box with reflex extension---the "entry 10" feels more like a reflex box but without reflex slowness and overhang.

It goes the approximate volume of a good 210. 4 or 8 ohms. Oh--also--it's not super efficient. I'd say 95 to 96 db. A mini digital amp will work just fine for one in 4 ohms.

Back from a week in Door County Wisconsin installing a nice tiled bath.

As far as the 10---
You have to keep in mind that I'm trying for a MUCH lower price point---but to be honest---I'm less impressed with 10's than any other speaker. Which is why I was excited about the Kappalite 3010lf. Goes lower with almost twice the air moving capacity of other 10's. But I wouldn't use it above 300hz. 5db drop from 300 to 500. Fine for my Flex cabs.

I like the Beyma.And some of the Faitals. But you can't get an fs below 55hz with these. And even at my cost they're pricey. An Eminence 3030lf costs less for me.

Enter the Eminence BP102.Fs of 35hz. Decent excursion. And inexpensive.Drops like a bomb at 2k---but the Faital 3 comes right in. Very balanced sound. Should compete with a standard 210. But VERY competitively priced.

What I was shooting for is most of the BIG E sound at a price affordable enough for bass players that don't moonlight as doctors or lawyers. (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

That's why I've been holding off buying a new (or used) 1x12 bass cabinet. As much as I'd like something like a MAS46, it's way more than I need or can afford. If this new model is more affordable for me and has the essence of the Big E vibe, I'll wait (anxiously), hang onto to my limited funds and hope that it'll be within reach for me.
The funny thing is, I've yet to hear *any* Big E speakers in person, but following these threads and the forums on the Big E site has kept me intrigued enough that I'm anxious to get one.

Thanks for the info on the entry level cabinet with one 10" Eminence and the 3" Faital. I have done ALOT of research on Talkbass about replacing my GK MB150E and had come up with the Crazy8 or Crazy 88 and a microhead. Now this. I'm very interested in this cab. I'm limited to about $500. Really enjoy these discussions. Have learned alot about bass cabs. Thanks.

So cool you are getting the Vortex out at an entry level price point. You won't see an MD or JD anywhere on the web following my name. But I am happy with what I got from Mike and BigE for what I spent. I drag my 80+ pound MA48 to rehearsal sometimes, even though I have the luxury of rehearsing at a full PA support facility, where I can take a 1x12 cab and DI into the house. But Great sound is great sound, even if there is no audience but the band.:)

I hear ya

That's why I'm a bit bummed that I took the mighty 210 out on a gig. I'm enjoying playing more. I'm 5 gigs in with the Flex 210 and it's just more fun. I'm actually playing a bit softer but hearing and feeling myself better. A bit of a revelation for me. As I've stated before---with the 210 the portion of the note that makes me feel like I'm doing my job (thump and pants flapping) is more prominent. Playing lighter and getting a bigger thump.

It's the same with the 48 that Mountaingrown has mentioned. That crazy cab has about 20% more output than even the 210.

A bit of honesty here---it's costly starting a business (something I have no previous experience with---all of my previous experience has been answering the phone ---or email and showing up for the gig). So---the OEM buys can be challenging (as far as $) So---the 6's have evolved and improved but the 8's have been on the back burner as I ran out of my first OEM purchase. And developed the Flex series.

But we're looking at the 8's again. We've changed the design (with Eminence) to reflect some changes and improvements.
I'll have samples soon and we'll be messing with the 8's again.
We're thinking of a vertical arrangement with an uber high end horn on top. Maybe we'll call it the "Tower of Power". Probably around 43" tall. No prob hearing the mids and highs with that one!

The tower sounds interesting! I am still loving the 210 flex. I rarely find myself straying from the bright setting with one tweet engaged.....talk about punch and cut! I would think the vertical alignment of 8s would allow for a narrower footprint that most players prefer. 3 or 4 vertical 8s with the same mids as the 210 with a single tweet would be killer. Simplify the crossover with a single 2 way rocker switch. Make it either 3 way or 2 way with the mids run full range.
