Big E Speakers pt 3

Eminence is shipping the 6.5's on Monday. I'll be shipping a 46 to Duke to work on the crossover on Wed. Should be able to ship the following week.
We're re-doing the crossover because the previous one was 8 ohms (new ones are 4) and now I'm doing three of the Faital 3's and one Ciare tweet. Also I want it voiced with just a tad more mids than the original one that Duke and I worked on.
All new cabs incorporate improvements we've done in the waveguide.

I can't seem to keep up with all these different models and revisions and stuff, but super cool stuff and really glad it's taking off. I just love being able to watch this going through all the growing. Couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of folks either.
And yeah, I also love the workshop pic. I imagine mad scientists coming up with the latest potions.
It's also really interesting hearing Mike talk a little about the business side of things. Weighing bulk order costs and such vs. what sort of thing would please more players as well as his own ear.
This stuff isn't anywhere near as easy as these guys make it seem. That's how you know you're dealing with real professionals.....they make it look easy.

Don, cut mids on the 45? Perhaps low mids, something under 500hz. But only on upright. I boost hi mids on my 45 with electric.
Yep. I cut low mids just a bit more than HM on upright. I don't really use the MAS stuff for electric.
The 45 has more prominent mids than the 46. Even with the changes the 46 will be a small bit subdued in the mids than the 45.
I have to apologize---I know it's not good business---but I try with each cab to make it better than the previous one. And I'll continue to do so. Tom and Steve (Leland too) are constantly looking for improvements. They really are relentless.Every week they say something like---"change this panel angle by a few degrees, it improves efficiency and has more low mid clarity". They've divided the cabs into the separate chambers to tweek and measure, tweek and measure. It's actually fun. They've figured out how to tune the different chambers to attenuate peaks where needed. Pretty cool stuff---I'm happy to be a part of it.
I know that it must be obvious that I'm posting less about the process. I thought that it might be fun to just talk about the evolution and implementation of this technology. But---some saw it as self-promotion which was not my intent.I can see how another manufacturer could see it that way. I felt bad---mainly because I thought it would be fun and informative--but I respect the TB folks for doing a very difficult balancing act of trying to keep a level playing field for all.

Things are getting pretty solidified now. I do apologize for all of the changes and revisions. It's just that it's REALLY a totally new technology and I've stupidly brought it to market rather than sitting on it for a few years. In retrospect--I'm still glad I did it this way. Things are advancing much more quickly due to the feedback from y'all.
One fun thing---out of the blue different driver manufacturers are sending us stuff to try. For a geek like me---it's like being a kid in the candy store!
I see nothing stupid in you guys being excited about what you're developing and building and wanting to get it out there! It's that excitement and your interest in involving the users that got me interested in the first place, has kept me watching, and now that you've got something within my reach, has prompted me to order one. The fact that you guys didn't choose to sit on the technology for the sake of possibly maximizing your profits later is a good thing in my eyes.
If the driver manufacturers are sending samples of their stuff for you guys to try, it means the word is out and you've obviously established enough credibility that they want to potentially get their drivers in your products. Pretty cool.

We have to give Mike some credit here. His relentless pursuit of perfection on the bass cabs has driven the research much faster than it might have otherwise. The input from a world class musician playing an instrument that makes unique demands on the cab has been invaluable. Many of the things done to the bass cabs have filtered over to my PA cabs.
We're not done, but we are at a point of diminishing marginal utility. The changes are making smaller and smaller improvements. A db here and there. I don't foresee any big breakthroughs, at least in the near future. I know I told Steve and Tom unless they create the "Voice of God" in a cab my PA cabs are done.
