A good left hook if all else fails. Probably just a review of TOS? compliance? I think it was a "is this OK?"
To tell the truth most of us would not want TB littered with "buy my magic cable" threads that were just commercials, so this one has to be checked once in a while I guess. The LDS appreciation thread gets no grief, cause the builder does not even post on TB. Other cab builders answer questions and comment, but the mods probably are always trying to see if a builder seller is initiating a lot of info posts w/o user or interested party comments questions.
This thread has lots of member questions and Mike occasionally keeps us up to date, re our inquiries. A subtle tightwire act to not appear as a mainly self promotion act.
Not even close. When he gets a minute between building and gigging he answers many interested parties questions.
Seems to have passed the sniff test again.:D

Quick rehearsal report on the 26. With just NS EUB and Walkabout. Tight garage, light drums, elec. guitar, two acoustics plus voc. 26 on the floor horiz. with wedge.

Smooth and clear, and the low end extension was striking. I was positioned right next to the box, firing at my shins. I heard everything. The transient response sounded as reported, tight and immediate with no overhang. Based on some careful knob twisting, i think i was using 30%? Of the available volume, which is astounding considering the size of the box. Difficult to believe the 6.5s are iron, but i suppose the difference with neo diminishes with magnet size. Cant wait for an outside gig.

And an octaver...

It was great to finally read about and see a diagram of the inner workings of the MVW, but to be honest, I'm a little disappointed. I was sure it was going to involve spacetime singularities and black holes. Then again, I guess I would have needed a more powerful amp for that.
At least now we have some graphs to look at. :hiding:

Tom, thnx for the impedance plot....finally. Looks like a helmholzresonator (bass-reflex). So the loading on the driver is the same as a normal ported cab. The horns/flared ports should work the same as the horn-reflex cabinets I've build(that's what I told more then a year ago...). You also see the dip starting at 200hz....that's an anomaly of such typ of design, my horn-reflex cabs have that too. This is caused by the standing wave in the horn/port and probably also due to the signals of the port and driver being out of phase. ;) Can simulate that in AJhorn (see simulations of my piccolo 8, similar anomaly http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/piccolo8-cab-build-piccolo-bass-1010311/ )

For now, this is my conclusion of the MVW.

Edit: just saw the drawing of the MVW, the inner devider makes it different from a normal horn-reflex, the impedance plot though shows the loading on the driver is similar to bassreflex and doesn't have any connection with a horn enclosure. And that plot is important to tell what's going on. That devider won't do much for the lower frequencies, it'll probably act as as an acoustic low-pass filter for the next chamber.

here, a quick-'n-dirty smulation in AJhorn of the 3010LF in a horn-reflex cab, looking familiar? I'll do a sim again once I have AJhorn 6.0 :D

Great review Tom, as usual! It's hard to put into words how this cab performs as IMO it is so different than anything I've used before, especially in a live setting, and your detailed explanations and comparisons are a great resource for interested parties. Kudos to Big E and MAS, you guys are killin it!
