OOOooohhhh, so that's what's going on...I've scratch-built more than one wrench specifically for those pedals; a proper-sized allen-head socket brazed/tigged onto a piece of bar-stock works wonders.
And I gave up complaining to Shimano about that crappy design years ago...I tried, believe me I tried!
Ken, don't make me go search(read *read*)through all this to see what you run- if XTR is poop, what works?Solely IMO...Shimano spuds are a crappy design general, a complete waste of money in general, and the XTR pedals prove it.
I just said that the pedals are crap...I freely admit that my geared mtn bikes have run XTR fr and rear der's for years, with Grip Shift shifters.
My current geared bike (Gunnar Rockhound, 23.5lbs) has that stuff and a SRAM chain, XTR 12-32 cass.; King h/s; Ritchey mtn cranks w/RaceFace ti-spindle BB, Speedplay Frogs; Thompson seatpost w/Avocet O2 race saddle; Race Face stem w/slightly cut-down Azonic DH bar; Avid Arch Supreme w/Avid levers; Ritchey WCS (fr)/WCS OCR (rR) rims, King hubs, IRC tires (either Mythos or Notos, depending on conditions), Wheelsmith XL spokes; and an ancient Marcocchi Z2 Bam w/custom-wound, progressive-rate springs and factory-modded damper...Old-Skool but plush for DAYS...

KMC doesn't make good chains for fat people. I'm out.
Given the choice between pretty and functional...
Meh, Spade2you's bike is shiny and I'm pretty sure it's good as well![]()
