In the the Master block, there is the Patch Level setting. You could try turning that down to match the recording.

I tried to plug my 1000core into garage band and used it as playthrough to hear the track and play over it but my live playing was SOOO much louder than the prerecorded stuff. Anyone have any suggestions or guidance on this?

@krfoss have you tried the KoT for bass?

Was thinking you could probably stick it in a frequency split on the high so you can preserve all the low end. Could sound pretty cool!
I haven't tried the frequency split features yet, but I could definitely try it.

What would be the sonic difference between using a frequency split and just using the clean blend knob? (Now that I'm typing this, I don't know if there is a clean blend on the loops).

Also I don't have the king of tone, just the prince of tone. I do have two prince of tones which add to one king, but I prefer matching the prince with a Timmy for guitar stuff.

It would ensure you don't loose any of that bottom end which can happen in some more guitar focused pedals. Blend would absolutely help though.

Hey everyone!

I just ordered a GT1000 Core and am looking forward to being a member of this community. I will be asking lots of questions because I am a bit of a Luddite. Please be gentle with me.

First question… I will want to add some external foot switches. Do I need latching or non latching? And if non latching, customarily open or closed?

Either latching or non latching-normally open.

I have a couple of these and both modes work:

I'm the the same boat, but I took hold of a GT1k a couple weeks back. Even though I've only scratched the surface of it's capabilities, you can certainly color me impressed!

I debated for a while on whether I'd like to move on from my 2 year old HX stomp, but after lots of research and question asking, I decided to make the jump to team Boss and well, I have zero regrets!

Compared to the stomp, here are a few early thoughts:
  • The GT feels like a higher-end device (from a physical standpoint) than the Stomp. Even though both have metal chassis, the GT has a more professional look to it - screen, buttons, 'clicks', all a nice step up from the stomp.
  • The GT's presets are level-matched (or much closer than the Stomp anyway!)
  • Even though they are fewer, I think the bass presets on the GT sound and feel more real than the HX. Studio bass has become one of my favorite bass sounds ever after only a few tweaks from stock.
  • The Stomp does have the edge in sheer number of effects/amps/cabs.
  • Even though both have their ups/downs, I think the Stomps UI is a little more intuitive, at least for me.
  • The GT responds more like an overdriven amp than the Stomp ever did!
  • Looking forward to making use of dual FX loops on the GT as well!

As I dig in, I've already got a couple of questions for the panel:
  1. What do you guys use the dual FSW for?
  2. Anyone using the GT as the center of their gigging rig?
  3. Anyone using a decent synth pedal/combo with their GT?
Here's mine:

I spent some time putting together a synth patch, which sounds pretty good, but I'm definitely running into it's limitations. Get rid of all those unnecessary delay blocks and trade them for FX blocks. Also, I wish the chorus block had all the chorus options so I didn't have to waste an FX block getting the ce1 or prime sound.

I can complain about anything it seems. It still sounds damned good.

@JoeDoe my intention is to go for pretty much have the same setup as you have there although probably a Badwater/DG alpha omega ultra for preamp and maybe a Hyper Luminal comp.

For now I'm just using the GT as a pedalboard straight in to my GK or using 4cm to loop my GK preamp in to the GT.

I would very much like to be gigging it if I could find a decent band

I am also using a pre-amp box with (after) my GT-Core (Tech21 ParaDriver). Not because I think the Boss sounds bad, I just really like to have instant acces to tone-controls, especially a mid-shift EQ. I use the ParaDriver with moderate settings. And although there is no stage/PA without a DI box I still think it's kind of neat to bring my own.

I'm very interested in seeing how the SY 200 integrates with the GTCore. Some use a dual foot switch to scroll through the presets, and use the GTCore foot switches in pedalboard mode or assign them to specific effects for example.

Could someone just sense check this before I commit to it?

Thinking of grabbing some of this Sommer 4 pair multiflex cable with some mono/stereo jacks so I can have a dedicated 4cm snake. That covers off the 3 cables I need for 4cm and the extra one to control my amps footswitch from the GT.

Also making a nice instrument cable to go with it.

Is there a downside to using stereo jacks? Is it better to just wire up with mono connecters and just use one of the cables in each pair?

Hmm, on which in/output of your Core or your amp are you planning to use stereo connectors ?

Edit: also wondering how you would 'split-out' the snake into seperate cables going to the connectors ?

Thiese would be used for:
  • GT send 1 to Amp input
  • Amp send to GT return 1
  • GT line out to Amp return
  • Amp footswitch to GT ctrl 4/5
All of which are mono (to my knowledge) the only one which supports stereo on the GT core is the the amp footswitch ctrl.

For example a microphone cable could be used as a stereo cable, however you cannot split it in 2 proper mono ends because there is only 1 shielding. Other stereo cables are 'just' 2 mono cables welded next to each other ?

The Core L/out can be a stereo OR a mono output so what you insert and how you soldered it will determine what you get from that output.

This cable is 4 separate stereo pairs, if I was going to stick a mono TS jack on I'd essentially just be using 1 of the 2 wires rather than using both connected to a trs stereo connector. It'd feel like a waste to have redundant unconnected wires on there but it works out way cheaper than buying 4 individual cables and binding them together to make a loom.

I did not know that the L out was stereo! That makes a big difference in that case!

I don't particularly recommend that specific cable, I found it a bit fragile, but I can't say I know what to suggest as my other multi cable is scavenged Mogami 8ch that is probably at least a decade old. You should be fine with mono on a stereo cable. Just make sure to connect the second wire to signal, ground, or seal it so it's not at risk of any funny business.
