I don't particularly recommend that specific cable, I found it a bit fragile, but I can't say I know what to suggest as my other multi cable is scavenged Mogami 8ch that is probably at least a decade old. You should be fine with mono on a stereo cable. Just make sure to connect the second wire to signal, ground, or seal it so it's not at risk of any funny business.

Super useful to know! Wll in that case maybe I'll go down the separate cable route and wrap them/bind them to keep them tidy. Tbf at least separate cables are much easier to replace if one breaks etc.

I'll use decent quality cable for all of them except probably the footswitch one where I don't need to work as much about interference etc.

If it's just four cables you may as well. Zip tie them up and the diameter won't be much more than a multi cable.

Sorry for another dumb question.

I'm using the 4cm, but using a tube preamp pedal as my amp and the 1000Core out with headphones... so... not 4cm?

either way, can I still assign or use the various IRs the unit has with headphone out, or am I at the mercy of whatever it sounds like through headphones?

Thanks!

As long as you set your Output to Recording.

Will in an unlikely twist of events I accidentally bought a Master Effects super 800 + preamp pedal which I'm going to hook up to the GT1k so no need for all the custom 4cm cables. While the preamp pedal was more than I wanted to spend, it's technically saved my buying £80-90 worth of cable and connectors to make my 4cm snake and I've always loved the GK 800rb sound (just not the weight).

Do the IR/ Cab simulators in the 1000Core need to have the internal amp being used to access them? I'm using a preamp through the loop and would love to use the 1000core's cab options but they seem to only be activated/ changeable when using their digital preamps. I have it set in recording for the output settings, but it nothing seems to change when I cycle through their Cabs.

Any suggestions, or is this how it goes?

I had the same problem. I think it's something to do with how the built-in preamps work with their built-in cab sim that it's disabled, annoyingly it even disables custom IRs.

Two options:
  • Use the AIRD Transparent preamp which has minimal impact on the sound at some point in the chain.
  • Put your preamp send in a divider block on the A loop and AIRD preamp on the B loop. Set the divider to dual and then on the mixer set it to 100:0 balance so only your preamp send is audible. The AIRD preamp is active and doing it's thing and IRs work, it's just a waste of a good divider block.
I opted for the first because I needed the dividers and it ended up helping control the levels without really colouring the sound too much.

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions. I'll likely opt for option two at this time and will report back. Who knows, doing this may just kick off my SLOmkiiis... ;)

Yeah I'd have a play with the options, I personally didn't mind the Transparent preamp but I didn't really A/B the two approaches so can't really compare them properly.

Do I understand that your pre-amp is no longer in a send/return but is now after your Core ?
The Master Effects super 800+ preamp you use doesn't seem to have a cabsim ?

I'd have the super 800 in send 1 on the GT1k then the line out into the return on my GK head once I get it. I'd literally just be replacing my 4cm'd head preamp with the pedal so everything's on my board.

I have few presets that use the Concert amp. Settings that I use:

Gain 30
SAG +5
Res +5
Level 50
Bass 50
Middle 60
Treble 50
Pres 50
Bright On
Gain SW Off

I don't use the AIRD amps in isolation though. I add EQ (boost at 80hz), light compression 4:1, 2x15 or 8x10 cab, limiter, HPF 45hz, LPF 3.15khz. I have no idea what a SVT sounds like, but I have compare it to the Tech 21 VT Bass.

Thanks so much. I'll also have to experiment with goosing the Amps with eq and other stuff.

Got a little time to make use of the FX loops on ‘my playtime’ board this morning, and you can color me impressed! The 3leaf trio is in loop 2, and the Omnicomp with Jive saturator loop 1. Took a little trial and error through the programming menus, but once I got it, was pretty easy to navigate!

I never really got on with the Concert amp despite trying a few times, then again I've never really enjoyed SVT amps when I've tried them. I think they sound great for others but just never could get a sound dialled I was happy with.

Very cool setup. I recently discovered the Morningstar ML5 and that's really opened my eyes to how powerful those loops could be (if you can afford it )

With you on that. I’m come to learn that i like the B15 family of sounds more than the SVT.

The effects chain goes:

Concert Amp > EQ 80hz boost > 4:1 Compression > Reverb > 2x15 or 8x10 > Master FX Hard Limiter > Output EQ 45hz Low Cut (HPF), 3.15khz High Cut (LPF)

I’ve set the Reverb to effect the upper mids and treble - effect level is set to about 20, the 80hz boost gives me that punch, the Hard Limiter acts as an enhancer/boost, 45hz Low Cut cleans up the mud, 3.15hz takes care of string noise or buzz from the overdrive.

In general, my philosophy in bass tone is add the gain, squeeze it a little, then boost it up aGain.

Guys/ gals who use the "concert" preamp (ie, the SVT) what are your settings to get an authentic SVT tone? I'm not much of an ampeg aficionado having gravitated toward fender sounds, so how can I get the quintessential ampeg SVT tone?

Thanks so much. I'll also have to experiment with goosing the Amps with eq and other stuff.

Agree on the Concert Amp. I struggled to get a decent tone I liked. It just didn’t give me that string sensitivity I go for. But when the latest update came through with the Master FX, that was a game changer for me. The Concert Amp came alive when I added the Master FX in the effects chain.
