Just stating the obvious :D

Seriously, although I make changes to my pedalboard on an almost weekly basis (not new stuff, just experimenting with all the toys I already have..), since I got this Cioks DC7 my pedalboard feels much more 'finished'. It feels as if I only make 'tweaks' now that I have this solid base of the Boss Core and that Cioks power supply :)

Agreed with the above. Get there cioks. I have the 7 and the 4 extender. The 4 can even be powered with just a USB cable!

The flexibility of the cioks is amazing. Even if you go back to all individual pedals, knowing that you can get any pedal (almost) and never worry about voltage issues is great. Also, being able to experiment with pedal responses to voltage changes is great. So yah, get a cioks. I do have the doubler cable, so it eats two channels for me but I'm fine with that.

At first I was a little afraid to use one outlet only, but the Cioks specifically has a 'control-led' that will dim if you are over-drawing an outlet. This led does not dim at all when I connect my Core. But maybe one should investigate further and not take my 'advice' for granted :)

The list of stuff to buy is getting eye wateringly expensive. The shortlist is Model Fet pedal, Dude Incredible pedal, Cioks power supply, Cali76 and a rockboard 3.0. There's a whole heap of other stuff too that I'd love. I need to find my 2 year old a job, maybe I could start her building pedals, she got pretty nimble little fingers.

Anyone using a pedalboard power supply for their core?

I've got a cheap power supply that isn't cut out for the job so either need to use two plugs or get a more capable supply that could drive the GT core too.

I'm using a Mission Engineering 529i to power the Core, a H9 which is another power hungry pedal along with a handful over other lower power pedals.

It handles the job just fine AND it has a battery built in, in case someone knocks out my A/C cable! :)

I was using a Rockboard Power LT XL with my small board and tried it yesterday with my Core. It seems to work fine as I expected it would. It is a lithium ion, recharageable power supply that has two 1000 mA outputs. I like not having to have an additional power cable running to my “board” plus it eliminates any noise that comes from the electrical connection of the venue.

Any ideas how I can get a Fairfield Accountant type tone out of the internal compression block?

The compressors in the Core are the Orange Squeezer, DynaComp, CS3, and the MDP compressors for guitar/bass. I’m not sure any of those will emulate what the Accountant does. I’ve been using the bass MDP compressor and happy with it. But I have been thinking about the DG Hyper Luminal, which has a FET 1176 mode. Or maybe the Cali76 CB.

Squeezer might get close.

Just had play around with the Squeezer and DynaComp. Didn’t really consider them as I was preoccupied with the bass MDP (X Bass). Set the Direct Mix to 60 and both sounded really good. Squeezer sounded harder and the DynaComp sounded warmer to my ears. The X Bass sounds very fat and clean. Probably due to the Multi Dimensional Processing, which is supposed to clean up the tone and reduce the noise.

So the Dyna or the Orange, followed by the Xdrive preamp, gets close. I’m going to try some EQ on it to see if I can get closer. I’ll put it on a side chain, and turn them all on together.

Here's some example compressor settings.

Heavy compression/limiting, smashed to smithereens, picks up every sound on the bass, less control over dynamics when playing, definitely not used with overdrive.

Light compression, high threshold has a more open sound, more control over dynamics when playing, good for smoothing out overdrive, stack this with a preamp to get nice long sustains, this has been my go to since I got the GTCore

My new favourite the Orange Squeezer, using the Direct Mix to retain the bottom end.
