Broughton Audio Super Thread

Was never a fan of TIs until I put them on a short scale Mustang PJ. They shine on that bass.
I love them on short scales as well.

Had them and loved them on my passive Stingray but wanted rounds for that bass. They sounded so good it was hard to take them off.

They are on my Short Scale Jaguar (p/j) now and they kill on there. Finally have my Pbass with flats. Every other time I put flats on a Pbass they never lasted long.

I have TI's on a short scale Sandberg, and they are awesome.

How are those pick ups tho’? Any controversy there?:smug:

Hah! Well, they sound like single coils to me, but I don't appear to have the noise/hum that others have experienced. In fact, it's quieter than my P bass!

It's a really fun little bass, though the more I play it, the more I remember why I switched to flats. I just don't like the feel of rounds. I think the TIs will sound wonderful on it.

I am a huge fan. Not too long ago I had them on my ‘73P, the FCS ‘66J and the DW SPJ at the same time. I’ve since put a worn set of Fender nickels on the J and GHS PW’s on the SPJ just for a change but I’ll probably change them back at some point.
The GHS PW’s are the best feeling rounds that I’ve found.

I could never get them to sound good on any Jazz I've ever owned, they always had some sort of boing to them in the mids/upper-mids that I really didn't like. On the little Mustang they just sound warm and deep, lovely.

Got it yesterday and took a brief test today. I didn't have any other pedals on and there were no drastic low end boost from the Hiwatt. Neck pickup from the T-Bird and deliberately a dropped-D tuning. The HPF was set at approx 80hz and while the change in sound clearness was more noticeable in the room the phone mic can also tell something. The first part is without the filter and you can clearly hear (with headphones) the toms from the kit resonating. With the filter on not so much.

Oh man...I am sofa king tired...

Here we are, just the morning after night 1 of 4 nights of concerts and fun and I'm feeling the pain. I don't know what I was thinking signing up for 4 nights of concerts while working every day and having my family off and college friends staying at my place.

I'm very thankful to not be chasing that maestro drop tonight/tomorrow...didn't get home til 130a last night and was in meetings by 9am and my son woke up at 330a and needed help getting back to bed. I am a zombie

Jeesh, you gave me a good scare. But the Broughton website definitely says April 29th for the Maestro drop, which is next week. Gives you some time to rest and get your F5 finger ready. ;)
There is no time for rest. You must always practice F5ing or you'll most certainly lose out.

Bummer, please send me your remaining tickets and I will let you catch up on sleep...

I’ve got some gigs subbing in a CCR cover band coming up this summer, and the Fender P4 with TIs is the sound. As much as I want to be playing my Dingwall SP5, it just doesn’t sound right at all with rounds in it.

I’ve also been experimenting more with the SVPre bright switch, and I’ve decided that I like it with flats, but not with rounds.

BBA, SVPre, Omnicomp, Studio 1, P15.

I am curious as to why not.
I've never tried them but have resisted taking a chance on them because I have read that they are a lower-tension string and I play very aggressively and need strings that fight back, Rotos work well for me in that regard. I currently only play long scales.

Mostly the tone - like I wrote, every Jazz bass I tried them on ended having this mid/hi-mid boing that I really did not care for. They're also REALLY flexible, much more so in my memory than the La Bella FF I currently have on my P bass. But again, the TIs sound phenomenal on my short scale Mustang PJ. My guess is the inherent warmer tone of a short scale bass, but who knows? Could be the pick ups, could be that bass specifically, could be the scale.

I'm somewhat tempted to try them on my P bass because it seems like P bass players like them more on average than Jazz bass players, but it's an expensive experiment.
