Always wanted one of these, but it just never worked out. The new ones are looking pretty sick.
The new Singlecut 5 really has my attention. But not a big fan of painted necks. Can anyone tell me what kind of paint/finish is on the neck? Does it come on all the Singlecuts?

Yes, it comes standard on the SC's. And, I believe it's just a flat/satin black polyurethane paint. Great for sealing the wood, and very tough/durable. Kevin makes this standard on most, if not all, his US handmade basses. My US KXB has the painted neck and I love it. Very fast and soft/smooth feeling. Not sticky at all like a gloss painted neck.

I'm out! Paid in full back on May 17th for my MJX-5, I knew then it was a pre-order. But all thru June/July/August I was getting email after email replies that my bass would arrive soon.
After many of these replies and no bass, I just asked for a full refund a few weeks ago. Went all summer without this bass, missed alot of gigs I wanted to use it on. I know this was not the stores fault but I feel I'd been very patient and just can't wait for this bass any longer.
Now, I'm having to fight with the store to get my full refund back to me. Again, I kept getting email replies of "I'm doing it today"; "You should see it by tomorrow" and too many "I'll look into it and call you right back" Refund never happened.
After many emails got a call today that it'll be done now. Again, no sign of any activity to my PP acct all day. So I called PP to file a complaint. And I called store again just before to let them know I felt I had to do this. Well they sent me only $200 to my PP acct.
Why not my entire refund? Heck I pre-paid the entire amount way back in mid-May. It's like they got a interest free loan from me all this time. They asked me not to file a complaint after they sent the $200 and that they'd try to get me the balance soon.
Well if it goes as slow as the "bass is coming your way" replies and "your refund is coming your way today" replies, screw that. I just don't trust them anymore. Send my friggin balance already; why should I wait any longer.
I'm not going to delay the complaint with PP, it's getting done on Thursday to protect my interests now. PP says my complaint is now on file but its' been too long so I have to print out copies and fax my documents of my complaint and all that was involved so they can pursue this. What a load of crap I gotta spend my time with this at all.
I again warned store in yet another email this evening that I will complete the PP complaint if no refund by Thursday. Sorry for my rant but I've been very patient with them, they did reply to most of my calls/emails in the past. But it just feels like stall tactics now to me for the remainder of my refund. First on the bass shipping ETA and now on my full refund.
I won't mention store yet cause they may come thru. But if no refund this week; I will show this on their feedback,other online feedback sites and here as well not to do business with them.
Too bad, cause I really wanted to try out this new Brute. I passed on several other basses to buy the Brute and now it won't happen after waiting all this time. I don't feel I'm being unreasonable here as all I expect now is my entire refund asap so I can just buy another bass on the TB classifieds at least.

ErnieD, sorry to hear that and thank you for your patience to this point. We can definitely take a good portion of the blame, as if you have been following this thread you can see that we have been concerned with quality and making sure each bass is beyond what a bass at this price point should be. And as most of the Brute family is finding out, while that may have taken us much more time then anticipated, the results speak for themselves. For the rest of you, as you can see, the Brutes are making it to shops and customers now. This was a rather large production run, so doing all the QC here (Kevin and I do 100% before they leave us) takes a bit of time. But we would rather do that then just ship whatever.
@jmain, the finish on the neck is a satin finish, most players will tell you its almost like no finish. Smooth, and fast. Not a laquered finish that will gum up if you sweat. And as Azz said, satin finishes are standard on just about every Brubaker Custom neck, so we are giving you the true Brubaker experience.

+1 on the painted neck (back). I have a Brute SC and love the back of the neck. I'm having a KXB-5 made with the painted neck as well. smooth, fast, buttery to the feeling of your left hand.

Personally, I LOVE the satin black neck. We have actually been ordering that as a custom option on our USA Spector basses and all the guys who play these necks are RAVING about that finish. We just got another USA with the satin black neck yesterday, I'll post pics when I get a chance.

When you say MJX-5, do you mean MJX-5 Double Cut? If so, they are in stock in most colors, it shouldn't be a problem to get the bass you want...

I also suggested that Brubaker consider a maple FB as well as a wider neck like what's on the MJX-5 series. The new SC's have a narrower neck and rosewood board. Wasn't a deal killer but not my 'look and feel' preference. My SC-5 is a faster bass to play in comparison with my MJX-5. And slap style is right underneath my finger tips on the SC with the 19mm spacing at the bridge. Considering everything, my playing these Brutes led me to order a USA KXB-5. Can't wait.
Conversely, I'd like to see a rosewood fingerboard and a satin black or black burst finish on the new MJX's, that would be hot.

Ok... I have a stupid question but never having a bass with a coil tap switch, you can get the sound of two single coils (bridge and neck) or MM style (with the bridge pup volume rolled to 0).

Floridabwoy, coil tap in this case gives you the choice of either the full MM humbucker or the bridge coil of the MM. So, think of it as giving you "Lakland" style pickup config or '70s J bass config.
Or, more correctly, both Brubaker Brute MJX and JJX pickup configuration choices. Two basses in one. NO ONE IN THIS PRICE POINT GIVES YOU THAT.

Perfect.. I LOVE the sound of my current Jazz bass, but want to move to a 5'er so I was concerned with loosing that "single coil" sound.... also I have always wanted a MM bass. Seems like the best of both worlds.

I have no qualms about the delaying shipping of the new Brutes. I ordered a MJX-5 double cut back in May. I ordered a black one but even told store much later if they got other colors in sooner, I might consider an alternate color.
I'm sure I'll be reading here later how great the new Brutes' came out and how happy folks will be with them. I sold my 55-02D earlier this year to a TBer. I was hoping the new Brute would replace the -02D I was missing.
But summer is gone now, those gigs I would've used the Brute in are pretty much over. Just hoping to recoup my money and maybe even find a used Brute here on TB classifieds later on. Peace Y'all, ernie
