Butchering a Pedulla MVP5.

now this bass is worthless...:((( you won't get even 500$ for it

I have never see it in the "for sale" section on this forum, otherwise it would be mine, i was looking for a Pedulla MVP 5 @ a reasonable price for a looooong time...

Why do people have to murder guitars just follow some pointless idea ?

QQ. Obvious troll is obvious.

The bass is looking great btw!

I stared to read the thread and was going to say dont do it.. but you already started..:smug:
I would have taken that bass.. I LOVE pedullas!!! had one just like it in RED years ago.To this day it is the easiest playing bass that i have ever played..
Good luck with your build out.. Should be nice....

Sanding complete! I used a heat gun couple with the end of a fine chisel to get the most stubburn areas out, and fine sanded it. Not perfect, but not bad for a first try! Looking to fill a set of tuner holes in next!

Well i have narrowed it down to 4 choices. Stain the wood (Colour not chosen but either black, purple, or green) Solid gecko green, Bright White, or stealth/stark black.

Staining seems to be easiest option as i have stained a guitar before and came out alright with minimal tools. But i have a feeling the wood has not got the best grain for staining.

Well i tried my hand out routing Saturday, freehand. The pickup is routed in, its a little rough and its about 2 degrees off placement wise. I'll post pics once its fixed!

As a side note, a MM5 TW pup is HUGE compared to a P pup.

I have chosen the colour to paint it, i wont say what til its finished to my satisfaction though!

free hand?????? youre a brave man.

No interest in leaving it natural...an oil finish maybe? I have always loved Pedullas but hated the hard finishes.

Honestly i only like natural finishes if there is some decent figured/matched wood under it! It was a solid colour before, and it will be again, which is as much i am gonna give away! I will say the colour is individual to my tastes. If my modifications alienated 50% of the people who would buy a Pedulla, i am sure the colour will put off 99% of the people.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

There are a few places that have MM router templates, although none that I know of for a 5 string. I would get a 4-string template and use it to make a 5 string template.

aiguitars on ebay has lots of templates. I also get them from Brian Ristola at Invalid Link Removed. Both are good sources.

Well its a little late for a template! Also even if i did get the 4 string one, 4 string MM pups have ears, The EMG 5 string MM pup has none. Genuine MM 5 string pups have no ears either.

Rob.

Well since you chose a color already....

here's some to mess with you

Raspberry Metallic (looks great with a flat pearl clear over it for a frosty look) With a flat finish to your pups it'd look great.

I was thinking about that. You could fill the earlier rout and get a template that was similar to your pickup and use it to make what you need.

Since you are going to be painting it an opaque color anyway, the filling option might be doable. And when you spoke of fixing the problem, I assumed you meant you were going to fill it.

I've recently subscribed to this thread as I think it's cool, and look forward to the final results. I wish I had commented earlier on the pickup choice. Wondering if the 40TW would have been an easier replacement for the routing. I believe it's a smaller footprint than the music man TW pickup but essentially the same pickup tone wise. I could be wrong though.

Look forward to seeing the final product. Also interested in how this will sound with the EMG system, which is something I like as well.
